Okay -- I'm throwing this creepiness out there:

Would you rather be Wednesday's date or victim? Or maybe a bit of both?

Jenna is just spectacular in this role.

They definitely played up the Wednesday is girlfriend material for the first season. You know that is not going to go away.

A date (not intercourse, damn it) is definitely going to happen this season. She is BF material but whether or not that boyfriend survives intact remains to be seen. And, let there please be ONE Netflix show where there can be a heterosexual date...

She piranha'd the swim team last season. She is dark and adorable and dangerous. That IS Wednesday... Didn't she say something like "Let's play a game, it's called "Is there a God?" in one of the episodes or films?

There will be a Wednesday date coming up. But will there be a Thursday for her consort?

lame they are doing the split season shit

Part 1 is coming on August 6th. Part 2 is coming on September 3rd

its less than a month apart so not a big deal but the ONLY reason they are doing this is to keep people subbed an extra month, no creative/other reason for this shit. I hated it when AMC took it up for Mad Men, Breaking Bad, etc and its even shittier when Netflix half asses it like this now.

Just release a show weekly if you are gonna be cunty about it Netflix

4+4 episodes between the two parts, essentially the same timing if it were weekly. Every service has noticed that giving people time to discuss and post about a season before it concludes generates more buzz and more views.

Better off complaining every series takes so long between seasons these days.

Those were nice, but if you think about it

1) syndicated tv isn’t the same profit maker like it was in the 80s/90s

2) HBO sort of cemented the less is more, more is more model: less episodes, but higher budget

Syndication is toast. No one watches network TV. No profit from DVD sales because there are no DVD sales. The only way to scrounge up cash is to pimp things out on Netflix and hope your show doesn't get cancelled after the 2nd episode.

Sad state of affairs.

I think DVDs could come back. Lots of people in my orbit are getting sick of companies playing fuck fuck games with subscription based digital media and beginning to buy (or steal and make) physical copies again.

I'll just say this is also a driver for some people building large multi-TB storage arrays on their home networks.... #justsayin

Wife and I were doing a leisurely rewatch of one of my favorite series when the streaming service which had it (Amazon) started up with the fuckfuck games.... One frustrating evening to get me off my ass, then an hour later we never have to worry about where it's streaming again.

Not to mention the problem that some services are starting to push for edits to classic media to make it more palatable for "modern audiences" is causing my wife to continually collect old DVD sets of old media. Still hunting for a DVD of Song of the South though....

I wish I could accept the 480p resolution of a DVD but it just looks horrible. A lot of stuff that comes to Blu-ray nowadays are just the big hits and top classics from past decades.

There are a lot of cases where the only way to watch a show as intended are DVD releases, because studios think everything has to be 1080p so they crop the image top and bottom to make it fit modern screens. The Buffy and Highlander upscales for streaming are terrible, but black bars aside, the DVD’s still look pretty good with a decent TV.

Anecdotally, I have noticed that my local used movies store has been getting steadily busier over the last year.

If you are still watching a media on 1080 display dvd isn't quite as bad. But the fractional scaling makes it look extra terrible on a 4k tv. Standard blu-ray -> 4k is nice integer scaling, if you aren't collecting 4k discs, at least try your best to track down a blu-ray.

Not that i'm saying it didn't happen, but the scourge of pan and scan was an actual scourge. And aside from the minor furor of FX? Disney? mangling the old simpsons 4:3 episodes for awhile that isn't generally a real problem that I've run across.
