You are right, but I dont expect my waitress to be supporting a family on that...if she is she has made some bad life choices and thats not my fault nor my problem. Sorry couldn't care less. A collage student waiting tables to help make ends meet? sure. A teenager working behind the counter to make pocket money? Great. A person trying to support a family by bringing plates to a table, fuck you.

Damn.

We had Sunday off at this job site, so we went to the local casino for lunch. I put $50 in a slot machine and left with $580. Back at the hotel I felt ill and realized later, after 6 hrs of liquid shit and puking that I got food poisoning.

Rustled because I'm torn, should I go back this Sunday?

No. You got lucky, take the win because if you go back you’ll just lose it.

I’m assuming you weren’t asking about going back for more food of course…

I bet they all share a common kitchen.

But if you go back, make sure you only take $50 again.
Mohegan Sun is the name. They are all there own restaurant, probably share something tho. And definitely just bring $50

My billable rate at work is just below our principal engineers and xxxxx scientist III. Unlike them, a portion of my billable rate includes my UAS and survey equipment, and also the software I use (ie: it's not just 3x hourly wage like a lot of people).

Because of this, I'm being gently pressured to spend less time doing field work whenever a big wig calls me with a short notice request and finds out that I'm knee deep in mud out in the boonies. They basically want the junior staff to take over my field work so I'm available in the office when needed, or so I can keep going on my R&D projects.

It's irritating because I love my field work AND office work, but I'd hate either of them if that's all I did every day.

What they're saying makes sense for most people, but usually if I'm doing field work (other than UAS), it's because I'm helping out a project manager thats in a tight spot. Either they don't have enough staff to finish something and I'm filling in (at 2x their staff's rate), or more commonly it's because I volunteered to do some field work because it's a perfect opportunity to test out something I've been working on. I'll test something out on a few projects and make sure it works well, then I'll get the rest of our field staff setup to do it the same way and let them handle it from there on out.

Example:

We're doing surveys on these 2x vineyard/orchard properties before a property sale. There's a dispute on how many plants are currently on site, so we're doing a manual count (which the client is paying a stupid amount of money for, happily). It's literally just walking up and down rows and counting plants. Since I'm right in the middle of developing workflows for this for our other departments and because this one is kind of a unique workflow (we're updating existing features/data instead of just collecting new features/data), I volunteered to do it. It's 25 miles worth of vineyard rows and I had one person helping out to do it the "traditional" way on the first day so I could see how our field time + office time compares for both approaches. Besides, it's nice to walk up and down rows on a vineyard at the base of the mountains, listening to music and podcasts.

So, it's mainly just 3 or 4 people that kind of bust my balls about working in the field when they were hoping I could help them out with something in the office. All of these guys are basically cheerleaders for the R&D stuff I'm working on for field staff and they know that testing it in the field is part of the process, but they still think I should just sit at the desk just in case someone calls me and needs help with something. I'm not in IT....almost nothing about my job normally requires some kind of rapid response, quick turnaround or being on-call. Anything that comes my way that's urgent is only because of 1. poor planning on their part or 2. software/technical help. And the only one that's kind of a dick about it is the former CEO of a company we acquired. I've told him twice now that nothing in my job description even implies that I need to sit at my desk and wait for his phone call. Last time, I told him that he either needs to accept that I have a well-structured schedule of project work and to practice better planning if he wants to involve me in his projects, OR add someone to his team with the same skillset I have OR to develop the skills himself. I expected a phone call from our President or my supervisor shortly after that call, but this guy is despised by so many people at the company that I assume any complaint towards me was just shrugged off. He's not a horrible dude, just an absolute asshole to work with.

tl:dr - They want me to essentially stop doing field work, but I like doing field work.

I feel you! You eventually advance enough at your job to be more supervisor and less field work/support. And if you prefer being out in the field, that can suck. But the pay raise makes up for it for *most* people.

One of these days Grandpa, you'll break a hip and will be forced to eliminate the field work. Don't let them force you out of it early.

Installing new washer. Shit was put in ghetto as fuck by the home builders. One elevation screw just flat out wouldn't turn so I had to cut the bolt. Drain water and as I move the cunt it decides to leak some more, just all around being a messy job.

But the cake taking is I gouged the vinyl tile in a couple spots as I had to walk the bitch left and right out of the cubby as it wasn't wanting to pull clean. So something to ding us when we sell , because I feel like fuck redoing the whole kitchens vinyl when we plan to move in a year or so. Just a question of what to patch/seal it for now.

So decided to play a bit of Guild Wars 2 this morning, game froze up solid so I did a control alt delete to bring up the task manager. The screen pops up to launch the Task manager but when it launches its UNDER the fucking game that is frozen. I can either go to the task manager launcher or the frozen game and thats it, Why isnt the End Task window always on top? What god damn good does it do to have a close program window but cant use it.

Amazon and their auto ad streaming bullshit. I'm looking up ps5 games and there's some video ad going from an "amazon influencer" pushing some shit like makeup. They are turning into Home Shopping Network.

Vinyl repair kits work to varying degrees.

Owners of this house I moved into a bit over a month ago half assed everything. They didn't know how to use a level, so everything they put up was crooked. They didn't know how to use a stud finder or toggle bolts, so simple jobs had screws all over the place...and were loose. I pulled off a floating shelf. 2 screw install normally. They used over a dozen and those cheap wall plastic wall anchors...and it was crooked. They had wall mount crap in the garage, and used different type screws in everything so it took forever to remove all of it. At one point, they painted the garage, but didn't bother pulling out the shelves or boxes, so you can imagine how bad it looked empty. I'd planned on having the interior repainted, so no big deal, but still WTF how lazy they were.

Oh...the kicker. They had a smart home alarm system installed in 2019. It had a thermostat. It wasn't programmed correctly, so the house was always blazing hot or close to absolute zero. I was wondering why they had portable heaters and ac units all over the place. They also had new ceiling fans installed. Thankfully by a professional. They spent 2 years in misery because they didn't feel like spending a few minutes to reprogram the thermostat. I pulled the alarm system out and put in a standard dumb thermostat. Took 15 minutes. House is cozy on every floor on hot or cold days and the ceiling fans haven't been on since.

I'm always amazed at how much work and energy people will expend by being lazy.

You should always have your ceiling fans on to circulate the air.

Tipping is retarded because its a shitty ambiguous practice for something fairly important.
I've stopped tipping for the majority of things, and don't put myself in situations where tips are expected. I hate tipping when a business rolls it into their model and everyone just expects it. Fuck that shit. Get a real job, loser. That said, I plan on going back to south america next year. The people down there are basically slaves to their government, and a tip I think of as normal can really, really make a difference in someone's life. More importantly, they don't expect it. I enjoy tipping in a situation like that, and will definitely tip freely down there.

If your waitess didn't get tips, she would be paid more, your food would cost more and she wouldn't feel motivated to bring you a refill when your cup was empty, or bring your food out when it's still hot.

You would pay the same or more for worse service
