dad has been in home hospice care for 4 months now. he is currently going through a bad spell. there have been a lot of ups and downs. several times we thought it was the start of the end but he would recover. now he is have to major issues, vivid dreams/nightmares with waking in a confused state and stomach issues. both of these could be from his declining health or medicine.
he had a really big down turn a few weeks ago, he got very depressed, weak, and didn't want to go on anymore. turned out he had a UTI, about 5 days of medicine he was doing very well and could walk around slowly on his own again.
last 2 nights after taking a pill, he a lot of stomach issues. i called the head hospice nurse. she told me stomach issues were not a side effect of that medicine. i had looked it up on several sites and heart burn and upset stomach are listed. she even told me to make sure she took the pill with food to avoid upset stomach (which he always does).
she then said me and my mom want to change his meds to much. i brought up one her changes was just wrong. when he had the UTI, she adjusted his depression med to 100mg twice a day. he was on 25mg. she then said, he report said he took 50mg pills, and no one told her my mom was cutting them in half. i didn't have the paper work with me so just politely ended the call.
got the paperwork, it says, (50mg, take 25mg once daily)
we live in the sticks so isn't like have options on different hospice companies.
