I read stories of stuff. One thing I read that happened years ago someone was getting portable phone stuff through the radio and ham radio stuff at times. The FCC had come out multiple times and they couldn't find anything.
After years one FCC guy found it. On a transmission line to the house there was a bolt under neath it or attached to it. When it would rain or ice and the washer get cold it wasn't super tight and it would create an oscillator. Tightened the bolt and all their interference on multiple bands went away. I guess the line it was under was acting as an antenna and the the washer vibrating was acting like a transmitter.
You are "supposed" to have a written thing on hand as a ham now showing how your antenna is not too close to something and how much power you are using for it and such. I do not. I use 100 watts on a 43' vertical that is probably 100 feet away from the house. But lots of people put one right next to the house or use an amplifier and that's when you really need a plan to show it's safe.

you’re describing PIM. Rusty fence syndrome. Grounding has changed dramatically over the last 30 years. I still routinely cut HALO ground rings wherever I see them for customers. I see hundreds of places, it’s always hilarious to me the utility companies notoriously ground their shelters massively wrong even in 2026. It has to do something with their regulations, I’ve seen it across like 3 utility companies now. Always the same problem…they loop the ground ring into the shelter bond and just wreaks havoc on transient surges (it bounces instead of going to ground). They’re always so fucking proud they never listen so I kind have stopped caring. Always the halo.
MPE for trained/untrained personnel is pathetically low. Free space inverse law means you’re fine.
Your untrained limit on a VHF 50dbm transmitter is like 6 feet…mainly so a person doesn’t grab the antenna during transmit.
Non ionizing radiation will just result in thermal burns. You’re not ionizing anything until you dramatically increase the power. Commercial products you’re not going to do that.
if you truly wanted radiation that ionizes you need the proper power supply, a cathode gun(CRT works), and the ability to focus the electron beam.
theoretically this is achievable at homes but why? Illuminate a crystal for a bit? More of a brag.
for example a cancer radiation machine is going to operate at 3Ghz and is probably pumping out 2.8MW.
fun fact: there are n-type connectors out there that if a lot of these transmitter sites upgrade to TDMA that are at capacity the connectors are not rated for that thermal load and will melt. All it takes is just one in the tx path.
