Why hide the screenshots and rickshaw forums?

The reason why we are doing this is to attempt to hide all the porn behind a wall so google doesn't take away our advertisement. I can return the forums back to the way they were if you want to ban all porn.

My point still stands that after a few weeks the people who would have gotten linked to SS will now not get linked - leading to lower traffic over time.
Here's the point though. Those lurkers who never post, but come here to look at pictures don't contribute to the community. Sure they may pad the traffic sites, but traffic means nothing if it doesn't generate ad revenue to support the site.

I could put everything back to the way it was if you can guarantee that 50-70% of the regular posters pay a subscription year round and never cancel. I doubt you could get enough people to do that, and I'd feel uncomfortable asking that.

That makes a lot more sense than trying to get us lurkers to post. At least I can sleep tonight, I thought SS had died again.
(I still feel dirty though)

The traffic wasn't really my point from the other post - I was thinking more of us not growing user-base because of the forum not being seen.

SS/RR viewable without a posting account = no ad revenue. The bandwidth is a secondary reason.

There's also some (naive) hope that some lurkers will lose their posting virginity and become posting members of the forum. I've got nothing against the faceless masses of lurkers but let's face it, we all come here primarily to consume content and be a part of that content. Those who don't post or donate add absolutely no value to the community (Again, I don't really mind that, because I lurk on tons of community websites), so I don't mind if I have to disturb them in order to keep the site profitable..
You need a hook, people linking back to foh gave it pathways for exposure.

Why not use adult-friendly ads in the SS forum instead of google ads? Google isn't the only source of revenue in the world.

Unless you know an advertisement/marketing firm that will give a good rated contract for traffic, porn friendly ads are 4-6 times less than google ads on average.

You guys should change "See comments/suggestions" to "Seethis thread".

I know that sounds kind of stupidly obvious, but it makes it stick out more. I've had referral links several times before, and you'd be surprised how much adding something derpishly simple as "click here" improved results.

No one wants to pay attention to this post. Either deal with it, or be ready to contribute through the link. Someone has to pay for bandwidth, and to quote Req from the other site, FOH was the equivalent of HIV because of all the porn. No legit advertisers would touch it.

how does the online ad world work in 2013? The no-porn-for lurkers makes sense, since its really to not allow googlebot to see porn images and not really lurkers. But then aren't you hurting yourself by not allowing a lot of lurkers to factor into views/clicks for ads? I don't get the registration thing at all, ads don't care if someone is registered on reroll or not, they have their own cookies to track that shit across the web - which is why I keep seeing papa john ads now since I ordered a pizza last weekend.

it used to be that you wanted tons of eyeballs and people to click on ads, is that still true or is the online ad world a lot different? are ads really able to pay for rerolled server/bandwidth or is it costing you a ton more than the ads are bringing in?
