You may need to play a beta (or demo) to have a VALID opinion, but you will have an opinion without the beta. And that opinion will, for most people, determine whether or not they're going to give it a chance. At the moment, it's "sunday morning cartoons WoW", with a lot of opportunities to spend $$ on pimping your virtual house. Hard to get a positive opinion on that.

(I was mildly interested by the game three months ago. These days? It's flat EEG)

Scifi WoW (OG version) with 40 man raids brought back sounds awesome to me.

Which is why it's baffling to me that I can't get excited for this at all.

Because you secretly know it will just be the worst parts. WoW questing with GW2 combat, just kill me now. There won't even be player to player trading, this game is basically a trojan horse filled with disappointment wrapped in wow vanilla packaging.

In 1999 internet gaming was niche, now its mainstream. Anything mainstream is exploited to max profits. Instancing it is cheaper design-wise.

I dunno, 3 months ago it was just as clear that this is WoW+housing. What did you see in it back then that has changed?

Outside of the fresh setting, which will last a few months, how would 40 man raids be more exciting than flex ones?

I can't get excited by this because design wise it's WOW++ with a new coat of paint. It sounds like the designers are competent and the game will be good, but it's nothing really innovative, just derivative.

I don't think anything innovative will ever come out of the MMO genre again, only simple additions to what is already there. There is far too much time and money invested in it and whether or not you like the game/company/genre, it just isn't going to happen in a large scale MMO.

I'm still pretty excited for it though.

Pretty much. You can look at this board. People cry for innovation, but then discuss upcoming games with notions of "I hope it does x from y game or has y from x game". People claim to want "new" but will dismiss anything too "new". Nothing is new anymore, its all pieces and parts from every game made re-arranged in different combinations and wrapped in a different wrapper each time.

Imo the only requirement a game needs is "is it fun". It can can have any style of graphics, combat, leveling etc , as long as the game is fun that's all that matters.

I guess it depends what you consider innovation. WoW was only really innovative at release in its overall design. All the pieces of the design already existed.

What I have done is played MMOs for hundreds of days /played starting with my first MUD in the early 90s, Legend of the Red Dragon (holla).

I have in most cases multiple max level characters in EQ, EQ2, EQOA, Guild Wars, GW2, WoW, Lineage 2, Rift, and Vanguard. In many of those mentioned I raided/PVPed at the bleeding edge. I also dabbled in EVE, TERA, SWTOR, and LOTRO, but none of them held my interest for longer than 50ish hours.

Forgive me if I find it pretty easy to formulate an opinion on an MMO based on gameplay videos, but I consider myself a bit of an expert on the subject at this point.

For those of us in Beta, we can at least say that their is a state of flux as to much of their game design currently so a lot of things people speculate on may be accurate or inaccurate, but that can change as the betas go on.

Also, this is an MMO forum worse purpose is to discuss MMOs. It has very little to do with actually playing them. If you don't like that fact, I suggest you gtfo.

Show me a single post I have made calling Wildstar 'dumb'. I made one post criticizing their business model and how it relates to their target market. I also made a post saying the combat wasnt for me. never have i put down any gameplay i have seen. In fact, many of my posts in this thread are complimenting the game.

Clearly though, judging by your ridiculous Chua avatar, you are a frothing fanboi already. Clearly their marketing to WoW morons is working.

That is a pretty stupid way to look at it. I see that same statement get used to slap EQ fanboys around too and it is just as stupid there as well. Why does anyone need to make a new EQ-like game? Just go play EQ! People enjoy a certain style of game, but that doesn't mean they want to play the exact same game forever. That is why million of people buy the new Call of Duty or Battlefield games instead of just playing CoD/BF 1. At their core the games are still pretty much the same, but newer is newer and that is what people enjoy.

Wildstar could be weapons grade ass for all I know (or care), but I can understand why people who enjoy WoW might be excited to try it. Also, I know a LOT of people love the sound of raids being bigger. The 10/25 man model has its pros/cons, but I have seen people say for years that they miss 40 man raids. Many raiders feel that is a sweet spot. Not so many that is feels like a retarded zerg, and not so few that it loses that epic feel.

Because the chances of this game being superior to WoW are pretty slim. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see. After all, they certainly are saying the right things.

Haven't really payed much attention to this, but the Dev and other videos they have on their website have got my interest. Even if its just a WoW+ with housing and dodging, will certainly be worth a shot to try out.
