It is pretty fun. Original Alterac Valley was awesome (outside of the battles lasting days) until they castrated it (because of the battles lasting days)

That's one of the reasons Alterac Vally -WAS- so much fun, because it could last forever.

But yes, the war plot stuff is shaping out to be pretty awesome from the info they are releasing about it.

I remember some all day AV's. There was just this laundry list of things your team could do to try and ruin the other guy's day. The best was when both sides were in an arms race to try and summon their boss, send out riders and bombers and all the other stuff. I remember watching the giant snowman and scarecrow trading blows in the big flat area in the center of the map with a bunch of ram riders and wolf riders swarming around.

People were getting ganked as they stopped and gawked at this titanic clash. The need to win and bring the battleground to a resolution every time you logged on never made sense. Killing the enemy commander was a rarity and it felt all the more awesome when it did happen because of that.

But everyone wants to be a winner I guess. Personally, I enjoy the foot slogging, dug in, brutal fighting 1000x more than a stupid battle report and honor points popping up every 10 minutes. Winning or losing is for winners and losers, I'll take murder, bloodshed and carnage as my reward. Of course it's nice when it serves a purpose...

New 3 page article up on PC Gamer

http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/wild...ct-second-mmo/

It's not really new information, but can always be fun/depressive to read somebodies play experience! He talks a bit about quests and how there's an over-abundance of them currently (and the devs say they've done it on purpose), and about some character paths. There is so much to do that doing it all would be irrational, so they want you to kind of choose what path you want to take when you play.

But of course, this is just this guys articles, and it's not like you can't go back in the zone even if that were the case.

Looks like it's shaping up really nicely. I think their approach is refreshing. As I've said before I really like the fact they are focusing on an MMO strengths instead of focusing on what they can bring from a single player game into an MMO to make it more exciting.

Checking my email every day ;~;
I'm scared to get excited for another MMO, haha. But they honestly do seem like gamers first and a company aiming for only money second. Of course, they are still a company and need to make their money and I understand that, but at the rate MMO's have gone the last few years, most seem to just push their bonus editions and aim for big sales and then the game just kind of falls off really fast.

Who knows.

Although I did really enjoy that in that PC Gamer article one of the devs was like "Yeah there's a billion things to do and we can tone it down later, it's better to over-do something than to not do it or not have enough."

People just need to stop expecting every MMO to be a game they're going to play for a decade. I played SWTOR and enjoyed the hell out of it. Leveled up a few toons to max, and then moved on. I still feel like I got my moneys worth.

I certainly didn't, considering I was playing a singleplayer game 90% of the time.

idk i know i didnt game EQ/WoW like i did to just dump it and move on a few months later.

I played Star wars for a few months also, i enjoyed it but like xzi does not discount the fact the game was a ghost town and a major let down to the majority of players.

I dont think MMOs are built to be one and done after a few months, yeah expansions basically mean you need to re-gear but i dont think id put all the time and shit into it knowing in 3 months it was going to shit the bed.

Btw anyone actually playing this? i had a co-worker go to pax-east he wrote it off until he got there sat down and played it for an half hour or so, now he wont shut up about it, but he still likes and plays WoW in its current state so i dont know how to take his excitement for the game.

.
Just depends on how the MMO is designed.

Me personally I can do either way. I can sit in one game that I play for year(s) straight or given the current market, I bounce between 5-6 MMOs + other games to play. I've yet to have a MMO that I didn't feel I easily got my box price worth of entertainment. I don't require they keep me interested forever, but if they can pull it off, I am not adverse to that.

Depends a bit on what your mindset is. I reason that if a game is not fun right now it's not worth playing. For example I would not play a game if leveling was dull just because the end game might be fun. As a consequence the whole time investment aspect becomes much less important for me. After all, I played the game because it was fun. With the MMOs being so many and so similar these days very few can keep my interest for more than 1-2 months.

I'm with Ash, if I'm not enjoying myself at the moment, I don't stay on the hook. I do get invested in game lore and side-games, so I may re-orient in moments of boredom, but those elements wear down eventually.

The people are the biggest reason to stay or go. If I've got friends that need help or are willing to help me, I've got more content to do. Unfortunately I've become elitist over the decades of playing these games, so I rule out making friends with terrible players.
