I don't think it's worth creating a new thread about it, but for reference here is the Top 20 of 2025 as voted by 5 friends of mine and myself. Note that it's based on the release schedule in Switzerland, so some films have been in last year's Academy Awards (like the winner) and some films that are in this year's AA will be in our little competition next year (like Marty Supreme or The Secret Agent).

1 A Complete Unknown
2 Dossier 137 (Case 137) - French film about an internal affairs investigation on a case of police brutality
3 Tardes de soledad (Afternoons of Solitude) - Spanish art house documentary about bullfighting (my N°1)
4 The Room Next Door - Almodovar directed english speaking film about end of life.
5 One Battle After Another
6 Bird - UK coming of age movie in poverty
7 The Brutalist
8 Sirât - French-Spanish film about a man looking for his missing daughter in the microcosm of rave parties in northern Africa.
9 Bugonia
10 Fuori - Italian film about a female writer bonding with two other inmates once out of prison (Fuori means outside)
11 Weapons
12 Babygirl
13 Caught by the Tides - Chinese movie mixing outakes of Jia Zhangke's 20 years filmography to weave a meta story.
14 Affeksjonsverdi (Sentimental Value)
15 Miroirs N°3 - German drama about a young women who becomes a kind of surrogate daughter after a car accident.
16 The Shrouds - Cronenberg movie about death and paranoia
17 Sinners
18 The Last Showgirl
19 (tied) Mektoub, My Love: Canto Due - Third part of a french romantic coming of age drama set in southern France.
September 5 - A recreation of the Munich Olympics attack from the point of view of the ABC sport crew that covered the events

Not that my opinion is worth much since I only saw 2 of the Oscar movies this year, but I thought those winners sounded about right.

Sinners with most nominations ever is ridiculous, and definitely didnt deserve best actor. Marty Supreme deserved more love even though I didn't like watching the movie because the guy was such a piece of shit

I was not expecting Sentimental Value to get International, but hey, "Euro" block and "Movies About Movies" block still representing.

Honestly surprised Frankenstein did as well as it did, even if it was the usual genre related technical categories. GDT is burning through his Oscar cache on streaming productions.

As far as OBAA and Sinners getting all the rest of the rewards, well, the warped view of reality Hollywood has is nothing new.

I watched 'One Battle After Another' on a flight to pass the time and I regret it immensely. It is "Antifa - The Movie!". Sean Penn gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen in a movie and they gave him an Oscar for it. This is Hollywood.

I cant imagine watching that movie and thinking it was pro Antifa lol, everyone in the movie sucked. Now you could say that if your government is so comically racist that they will gas you for banging a black chick, that maybe a lil anti government action may be warranted. But their movement left Leo as a drug addled useless individual that even if he could remember to do the right thing, he was incapable himself anymore.

Anyways I liked Marty Supreme more but no other movie was going to win this year.

Holy Shit,

Look at all those movies I never watched. I only watched Sinners because....well...vampires. Did it deserve all those Oscar Nominations? Well, given how I did not watch all of the other movies...maybe? I did start to watch One battle After Another but quickly got bored. It is a sad state of affairs in Hollywood when, the Oscars admit that Sinners deserves all of the Oscar nominations, but the boring movie still wins.

If you're in a strong enough filter bubble I could see watching this and thinking the revolutionaries are realistic and the fascists are a parody or vice versa. Or maybe they're just dense.
