World of Diablo makes financial sense for today's gaming market. Make an easy to jump in and out action combat MMO with no real role requirements (there's no tank/dps/heal, so just throw in a 5 wizard squad if you want, who cares).

They'll make it playable on mobile. Add in the slot machine style loot of Diablo, some janky pvp stuff, and you've got something that could leech market share off the Fortnite crowd.

Too many people have tried wow over its lifetime. The subs always bloom when a new expansion comes out, but there are still millions of people that won't ever play it again, even if it was good.

This seems to be what torchlight is working towards some kind of more persistent world torchlight so something like that with diablo probably could work pretty well. Kinda mating diablo with marvel heroes would work pretty well too.

Diablo wouldn't interest me unless it was super dark. I'd love to see Blizzard pull an "M" rated game out again. I remember the artwork in the instruction on Warcraft was gruesome as fuck. Now it's all sunshines and rainbow lolipops at Blizzard world.

They're a company built on taking other people's ideas and putting their own spin on them. (less diplomatically known as ripping off) That they're tone-deaf when it comes to listening to what people other than themselves want is really no surprise. They like the smell of their own farts. It worked fantastically for years because the quality of their work was unmatched, and they were a diamond in an industry full of shit. That industry has caught up though, and Blizzard can't keep up with the trends fast enough to copy things. Add in the true talent behind the company being gone at this point, and it's just an aging bloated corpse chasing its own tail to the tune of Kotick in A-minor.

WoW has been and will be the best MMO around for a long time, but it's due to the work that was done over a decade ago, and you can only stretch that out so far.

Tournament Mode was going to be a thing that allowed organizations to run tournaments more easily. It was not going to be a full MTGO style tournament support with in-game events and such. I'm guessing people thought it was going to be the latter and that led to Blizzard pulling back entirely.

Hearthstone doesn't include a play mode that duplicates the multi-deck format used at all competitive events and it does not have a way for regular derps to play competitively. I can understand not wanting your game to have those features and to remain a semi-casual experience even if some players choose to take it very seriously. What I do not understand is how hard Blizzard works to promote their games as esports to refuse to bake competition into the client itself.

Magic the Gathering Online is a pile of vomited shit. You can still qualify for major international events through the automated tournament qualifiers it runs.

Don't play to trends, make them, and yeah I don't know if they've got what it takes to do that anymore, but then again, very few studios do. I honestly think, IF DONE CORRECTLY, them putting WoW on life support and launching WoW2(or Diablo/Starcraft/etc Online) or whatever the fuck they want to call it, is what they should be focused on. Build, adapt, improve, and ultimately evolve the IP, using it's fame and stature to once again release the next industry standard. I just can't decide if they are smart enough to realize they aren't capable of doing that, or smart enough to be afraid of the always possible Titanic flop and resounding condemnation en masse by one of the most ruthless and obese fanbases ever devised.

I mean really, how do you go from Legion, one of if not the best expansion, even for its flaws, since Wrath. Mists had its charm, and SoO is still one of my most memorable raids.

World of Warcraft is that band you love and grew up with. When you first heard them they were fucking amazing and sucked you right in, you became instantly hooked and were a huge fan, then they released their next couple of albums and they were amazing as well you loved it. They have a solid list of hits you never got tired of, then as they got to big and the record company influence got involved they start putting out pop shit. You hated the new garbage but still loved the band overall, although as they started to release more pop shit you just got disappointed. Next the lead singer kills himself probably regretting all the pop garbage shit he played. Now a new lead singer is in place and the band is just going through the motions. You still support them and enjoy their old stuff. Then the lead guitarist goes off on his own and they bring in this smug cunt piece of trash fire shit and now the band doesn't even sound the same. They don't play any of their old hit songs you remember and for an encore they come out on stage and just drop a massive deuce on the fans faces. This is WoW.

Much like EverQuest, that band that had a really great bunch of albums, then went on hiatus. They have some pretty okay spinoffs, but those only come once in a blue moon and change names quite often or record under their own label. They came back eventually, but they just played their old stuff and only played it live. People pay to go see them live but the band members themselves are not really into it like they used to be. People always love when they come around for a tour, but wish they could have new material that includes the full band back together.

Wait, shit, I just described System of a Down with Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian.
