Isn't that just kind of what you have to do when that character is played by Sophie Turner?

People keep making this crack, but A: its not like she's had enough roles outside GoT to judge her a weak actress like Emilia Clarke and B: Everyone may hate Sansa for being such an idiot, but Sophie Turner nailed that role remarkably well.

You seriously can't judge her by her weak performance in Apocalypse because EVERYONE was in terrible in Apocalypse. Seriously, if I was judging everyone on Apocalypse and nothing else, I'd be under the impression that Olivia Munn was a better actor than Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy simply because they were both so fucking terrible in that movie whereas she was just sorta there.

Yeah this franchise has had plenty of really good actors that end up looking less than great due to bad writing/direction/whatever.

i just read an article and it was quoting the director or whomever it was confirming that mystique does, in fact, die in the movie. he said that he wanted to make a point to show how different this superhero world is in that people don't fall off buildings and then just dust themselves off and walk away. he also wanted to point out how strong the phoenix is in it's ability to kill of such a well known character in the trailer, not even thanos did that.

i just... that's not how power levels work... i mean it is on the meta level, but you don't write stories that way. mystique is really smart and a shapeshifter, but she's not some all powerful character. as dumb as x3 was, phoenix killing xavier at least demonstrated how much of a force of nature phoenix was.

I think you're confusing good casting for accurate acting. She was a teenager that fit the role when cast, and has shown next to no growth in the 8 years since. Her shitty performance in Apoc just added to the pile. She's awkward, stone faced, and can barely speak her lines without coming across like her head is going to explode from the effort.

eh... the only thing Apoc helped convince me of is that james macavoy is brilliant. he is consistently the most enjoyable part of these movies. i don't begrudge anyone else for having a terrible performance because that movie was a mess from the start. i'm expecting dark phoenix to be the same

They arent trying to get another sequel or you bet your ass they wouldnt kill off JLaws character. This movie really means nothing. It's just the last bit of garbage on the trash heap.

Yea, they know the MCU crew (good jab at it, since that's the shoulder patch of the soldiers escorting the XMen to whatever facility) will kill the current version of the franchise, and insert their own. Expect Marvel announcement in 2-3 years.

I feel like the X-Men don't really fit into the MCU. The central theme of the X-Men has always been the distrust and mistreatment of mutants and I don't see how you successfully bring that into MCU given that A: there are no mutants and B: the MCU is generally pretty light-hearted. The X-Men don't have to be DCEU level grimdark, but I don't really think they fit into the MCU even if they use whatever resolution Endgame brings about to start introducing them.

I want to know why Magneto was allowed to go free after murdering tens of millions of people. Hitler didnt even kill as many people as he died in those few minutes at the end of Apocolypse.

Similar tone to Winter Soldier? That was not very light hearted. Outside of that...

magneto SHOULD have been executed. it SHOULD have been one of the few times that the entire nation was united on capital punishment. public opinion is that he killed jfk, broke out of supermax, threatening the next president with a football stadium (causing untold property damage) and taking over the sentinels meant to STOP mutants, and then went on a world wide killing spree. i love the idea of charles and eric wanting the same goals but being diametrically opposed in how to do it while still having extreme respect for the other... but... there's no way. there's just no way

You also can’t have a plot device of intolerance without comparisons to current SJW/BLM/MeToo situations. Having a group of minorities hated in your movie is too political and real.

Thanks, Obama.

i have ABSOLUTELY NO problem with a story about intolerance and prejudice if it's handled intelligently. there's been PLENTY of great stories already done that way... almost any great sports flick is based on that exact premise. i'm FINE with that. show us an x-men movie where people are legitimately afraid of magneto and don't find any distinction between him and the x-men. why should they, they end up hanging out every movie. fox's biggest problem is that they look at comics and think it's all about super powers and fight scenes. no one cares about phoenix because it's some overly powerful cosmic being. we care about phoenix because it caused real tension between characters we love. i don't hate sansa, but there's been no reason to care about her as a character. i don't hate j-law either but they have completely derailed mystique's character into something much less interesting.

i would LOVE an x-men movie where there was no real villian. just humanity being terrified of mutants being born as weapons of mass destruction, and mutants being terrified of humans because they AREN'T invincible, they have NO idea what's happening to them and people are killing them for being different.

as long as it's handled intelligently, and doesn't devolve into identity politics and SJW nonsense, it could be really great. but i don't think movie will never get made

it's unfortunate because now is really the perfect time for it in the MCU. the average person has NO idea who thanos is, has NO idea what ACTUALLY HAPPENED and public outrage would GLADLY look for anything as a scapegoat and target mutants

Honestly, apart from the Wolverine standalone films, I've found all the X-men films pretty consistently average or above. I'll watch this one too; not in theaters, but when I inevitably get it as a gift from a friend and later resell after a single watch.

They are better than the Fantastic Four movies, I'll give them that.

Real actors love playing the right bad guy (or girl). Wannabes don't want to sully their "image".

I don't see how you successfully bring that into MCU given that A: there are no mutants

In the comics, people with the X-gene didn't start showing up til the 1900s and only slowly started being born more and more as the century went on. Can easily just shift that forward to the point where people are only just now in 2019/2020 having active mutations show up.
