Pathfinder 2e is the mechanically superior system in the chunky fantasy RPG genre. As far as published books go... there's a lot of wokeism so I would generally recommend homebrew.

Also, cost of living is way higher now than it was in the 80s. The home price to household income ratio might be similar to how it used to be, but if we look at net household income after cost of living expenses, the ratio is way worse.

I disagree, we've seen a few MMOs in the last decade or so that have been brand-new IPs but still had a good run, like RIFT and Black Desert. It's more about having a strong studio.

I don't think it's combative, you're letting the dice determine the results. I think it's more "combative" when everyone is metagaming low rolls on searches and knowledge checks.
