Isnt that the Book 2 sleeve? when the rest of his team was wearing Maoris because of Radiation resistance and he didnt want to swap out of the top tier combat sleeve? Also the Wedge sleeve in book 2 gave him command authority on that planet vs. most of the local military forces. So he didnt want to 'drop the rank'
Yeah they used it on this one for a specific plot mechanic.

He has wolf DNA because Jaeger comes in with a wedge team that are all spliced with wolf and that way he can't fire on him since he isn't the alpha of the pack. It becomes an issue twice but Jaeger is overconfident because of it and so he uses his finger to pull the trigger instead of his own.

It wasn't the worst way to do things but the gecko suit was kind of neat.

I am really unsure on where they go with season 3 but I think they are leaving the books no matter what instead of doing flash back stories.

I need to sit down and watch the show. I am kinda balking because S1 left out a lot of the more interesting concepts of the books and Kovacs was a bit of a crybaby pussy on the show in comparison.

I need to re-read the books, they hold up pretty well.

I wish they would do a one off series of his other book Market Forces. The Death Race car duels to settle corporate rivalries was a fun concept.

I liked his recent gene splicing one.

I reread the books not too long ago but also ingested a ton of media so I was just orbiting around the greater details and not the finer details. They definitely hold up super strong compared to a lot of other books. The show is real great and I do like it but I think that it might be impossible to get it acted properly with the same demeanor and mannerisms across multiple actors. They do an okay job but it's near impossible to get it perfect.

I am just happy they are actually making content in the genre and spending money doing it, if this was a SyFy series it would probably be unwatchable. And I am glad AC became a series instead of the film it was first going to be, Morgan got to finally write full time because Joel Silver bought the film rights but it sat in dev hell for a decade I think.

I still havent read Thirteen, I was saving it til he stopped making fantasy and had another sci fi one out, which turns out is the follow up to 13.

Edit - Morgan's fantasy was pretty awful imo. He is a Sci Fi writer.

2nd Edit - As I said before the Peter F Hamilton's The Night's Dawn Trilogy and the Commonwealth series is also worth reading if you liked Morgan's stuff. He is a great at tech concepts and world building, it is more Space Opera than cyberpunky. And the story has a dozen main characters.

Zapatta, you are doing yourself a disservice by not watching s2. It isnt groundbreaking or anything, but if you are an AC fan in general, you HAVE to watch the show.

There is enough payoff either way. I never read the books, but am still super interested in the world. S1 was better than s2 but both are worth a watch regardless.

I'll get around to it eventually. I kinda noped out when they announced casting. Putting a black dude as lead because 'diversity' was retarded when everyone in the book is some kind of mixed race and it should have been a hapa or a pacific islander, ACTUAL diversity. Once I knew it was gonna be a black dude I figured they wouldnt have all the nautical , swimming and ocean sports stuff on Harlan's world and that basically guts the character of the planet.

If they were filming the book Thirteen it could be a American Inventor because the original title was literally Black Man.

Well I watched EP1, they are sorta mashing book 2 & 3 together, sorta. Joshua Kemp and his freedom fighter faction are book 2 and have zero to do with Harlan's. They really took liberties with their tortured Takeshi chasing a lost love (that aint Morgan's book character, he is a stoic MFer who has seen 50 lifetimes of shit). S2 reminds me a lot of the Keanu version of Johnny Mnemonic, it aint the book its bits and pieces of the universe and lore overlaid on your standard formulaic Hollywood plot. Sidekick Poe is just odd. Envoys are lone wolves, adding a comic relief for Takeshi to do exposition against is a bit jarring. this needed more Ridley Scott less Joss Whedon

It aint awful for what it is, but it aint Altered Carbon. Jozu Jozu read the books.

Col Carerra is also book 2, opposite number to Kemp. The bounty chick is 2 characters they merged together. Very odd.

Semiter and the Soul Market are book 2, but the use as a plot point is super different.

Yeah, the story is bits of book 3 but not all of it. I'm kind of disappointed to be honest. But book 2 and 3 weren't exactly amazing compared to book 1. Book 3 did feel more like a series of adventures though with changes in scenery. This show didn't.

EPS 4-6 wtf, the jap and black team is so much better than the black and black one. I just want to see more poe, or even his dig girl, basically anybody that is not anthony mackie is good.

jesus lord have mercy give me the strength to finish 7 and 8, i think you ppl that are "ok" with S2, are book readers, cuz so far as a series this true detective s2 levels of horrible.

The coilhead chic ruined it. She took up so much screen time and the show suffered.

Mackie is a walking meme, and that doesnt help either. The rest of the cast was ok. Quell was great, governor was convincing, Carrera was serviceable, and everyone pretty much agrees Poe is awesome.

Writing was also pretty bad. I really rolled my eyes when Wakandan Kovach lives after being knocked unconscious and thrown off a cliff, but somehow lived by holding on to a rock edge while knocked out.....lol.

That’s from the book as well, he does it at an archeological site after the first of several(?) fights with the team after him.

They talk about his sleeve having innate survival instincts. It's pretty cheesy, but it at least wasn't out of the blue.

People powering through because they like the setting/concepts doesn't mean that people don't also know that the writing is atrocious.

Mackey is fine when he stays in his lane, I just don't think this particular role was it and the script didn't do him any favors. Him doing that buddy cop show as falcon should be good.

S1 was visually shot more in a film style, S2 looks very TV. That combined with a lot of the actors chewing the scenery its pretty rugged. SyFy with a bigger budget. Mackey is pretty horrible and I cant think of role where he wasnt.

If you havent read the books you really are missing out. This is almost World War Z as far as bad translations go.

I always thought of the 3 books as very different genres which Kovacs and his flexibility as an Envoy adapts to deal with. 1 was a Noir Detective story. 2 was War Porn + Raiders of the Lost Ark. 3 was a classic Heist caper. The bones of the stories are a well worn path, what Morgan does well is layer sci fi tech on top of them.
