Seems a little too "dumb" at the moment. The concept is nice (shit murders weeds!), but downsides are:

1) You have to deweed the spot 1st, otherwise all the weeds won't pass the height test
2) Without much wheel clearance, it seems like this would get stuck on any non-level surfaces
3) Animals trying to dig little holes here and there may cause problems
4) It seems to change direction like a Romba...it hits something and goes the other way. Like others have pointed out, this is fine if you have some garden with everything spaced out, but certain types of plants seem like they would mess this up (plants with broad leaves at base or that hang down, anything with vines, etc)
5) What happens if a twig or whatever ends up in the garden? Is the mini-weed whacker strong enough to deal with something more dense that a weed shoot? Would it break trying to destroy the twig?

I couldn't listen to the audio to that video, but unless it squirts it with Roundup, what's the point anyway? Chopping off a weed just means it is going to be back in a day or two. Anyone that has ever weeded a garden or yard knows you gotta pull out the root.

I guess maybe if it just constantly monitors the whole area that doesn't matter because it keeps them all down, but I don't really know that it is actually solving the problem.

If you chop it off every day it will die, especially if you get it when it's very small. I think the theory is sound, but I am skeptical that it works that well in practice.

Ya, their reasoning was that if it gets chopped every day, then it depletes its energy store and dies.

It's a super neat idea, but I feel like the real world application would be lackluster.

I think where it may work pretty well is in a bed that you've spent quite a few hours prepping. If you just went out and cleared a patch of ground and planted some zuchinni... I don't think that little thing would do much of anything.

It's not going to make it so that you never have to weed, either. If some grass or ground hugging vine starts to grow in your bed that roomba-whacker isn't going to contain it. But does look pretty neat and it would save SOME work.

That thing looks like it would make a handy urinal when you were drunk in a hotel.

The first thing that popped into my mind is someone duct taping a kitchen knife and a little speaker playing the Psycho shower scene music on a loop onto this thing and recording the resulting lulz!

Yeah i know its twisted but its the only brain i have!

Hackers could program sex robots to kill

These headlines are fucking hilarious.
I actually think this is a real possibility.

If you look at robots and AI there's a few classes of them that have enough finance to be complex enough to be dangerous:
1. Goofy military simulationAI
2. Military defense robots
3. Autonomous vehicles
4. Sex bots (purchased by wealthy people).

#4 is the only one owned by a layman and operated in isolation.

I can definitely see a future where rich people buy $100k + sex bots and a user community is built around rootkitting it and modifying its personality beyond whatever software and electrical constraints are allowed by the manufacturer.

And if that happens I can see some rich dude going to vixen.nexusmods.com, downloading 50+ random mods that all center around sucking his dick, trying them all at once and the robot malfunctions itself into biting his entire groin off.

I think I had a dream last night inspired by this post.

Also:
House passes bill paving the way for driverless cars

It'll be good if the Senate passes (and Trump signs) while the US public has a (naively) high opinion of driverless cars. Better than congress knee-jerking into legislation after a Tesla launches itself into a schoolbus.

If they cost that much I think renting a human is still much cheaper. Need to bring the price down to compete with good escorts. Plus I think the idea of a robot that just does whatever you want would get old real quick. A lot of guys who hire sex workers get off on the fact that someone is serving them, not just the mechanical sex action. Unless the bot is good enough for you to forgot its not a human, it's not going to be worth $100k or even $20k.

Good point. And a service that had complex and high functioning sex-bots would be much better equipped to handle and configure them properly.

Why do you think this wouldn't happen? Eventually they will reach the point where they are (near) indistinguishable from human beings. 20K for a sex robot who cooks / cleans and has an ever growing list of fantasy scenarios she/he can play out with you every night. What you're describing is early adopter first usable design stuff. The day of the sex robot is coming. It might be 50 - 100 years away but no doubt it will be here some day. If you didn't see it I highly recommend watching Westworld.

I'm actually quite interested in how it will change our society. How does it change the relationship between the sexes. What will our customs and attitudes be like with respect to these robots. What does it mean for the future of our race.
