I'm guessing lab created real diamonds are still made from carbon. Moissanite is silicone carbide. Maybe? What's the difference between lab created "real diamonds" and moissanite?
yup. It's slightly less hard, is more refractive and is birefringent. Additionally all the lab-created moissanite are nearly perfect, where as naturally created diamonds have a lot of variance in color, cut and clarity. You can get near-perfect diamonds, but you'll have to go through the process of striking a balance between the 4 Cs (cut, clarity, color and carats) and for an engagement ring it's very likely you'll sacrifice quality for size.I'm guessing lab created real diamonds are still made from carbon. It hasn't been millions. Evolution takes quite a while to completely shift ones biology/nature. A little bit of social pressure for the last few hundred years(at most),certainlyisn't going to do that. Females are still firmly in the "provide and protect" stage. Gigantic rocks on her finger are a fantastic indicator that she's "provided" for, especially when she knows other women will see it.Yeah, for millions of years the root of female attraction has been how well a man can provide for and protect the female. But we're in a much different place now and people are a little more complex than that. There's innumerable reasons why a woman would hate expensive jewelry.
Nobody said that she wasintentionallybeing deceitful. This is simply the way women are wired. You can't just take them on theirword, that's the whole point. Any woman who thinks a large ring is "obnoxious" is jealous as hell. Especially since her reaction would be completelyopposite, if she were the one receiving it. If some girl gave a man a 20k dollar home theater system over dinner, I wouldn't scoff and say, "Oh, man! That is so obnoxious!". I'd rightly state, "That lucky ass motherfucker. Well, I'm jealous."And all the talk of my girlfriend being deceitful just to deceive me in to buying her fancy things is fucking hilarious
Its a matter of men expecting everyone to communicate overtly like us, but female communication is far more often of a more covert nature.Nobody said that she wasintentionallybeing deceitful. That is so obnoxious!". I'd rightly state, "That lucky ass motherfucker. Well, I'm jealous."
Now, if you can't understand the subtle, but very obvious difference between the two communication methods, I don't know what to tell you.
What? Engagement rings? I agree. This is Merlin levels of stupid.
Yes, and my thoughts (and some research) are in earlier parts of this thread expounding upon that. I mean, I look at Antarius say "Still, I think if I spent less than a few grand on a ring, my girlfriend would be pretty offended." and it just makes me feel sorry for him that he (and so many others) have to deal with that ridiculous expectation because of one of (if not the best) marketing campaign in history, designed for no other reason than profit. What? Engagement rings? I agree.
You didn't answer my question regarding rock valuation. What is the conversion factor you personally hold with regards to Moissanite and diamonds? When do you feel diamonds and all they represent, intrinsic, extrinsic, are worth it over Moissanite? What 4xC and dollar value are you going by? When do you feel diamonds are favorable to Moissanite? At what price level? 2-1, 1,?-1? Could you express this in a mathematicl function? I'm being very serious, looking hard at Moissanite gems, Tubro.half off is a pretty good price. That number will inevitably drop, but it's much lower than when I looked at this a while ago.
Oh my god dude, just stop already. Im out. Enojoy your diamonds guys and gals. Fucking thread killer.

They now offer lab created real diamonds as well. 1/2 cost of mined and yes they are real diamonds.
Yep. It's actually even more interesting when you get down into the details and you see the various things the marketing company actually did, and more quotes from people involved in the scam, er, marketing campaign.
Women have been firmly in control of dating, sex, and marriage for a long while, it's only natural that in our society it's "normal" for guys to be responsible to pay money in order to continue having sex and a family in a societally acceptible way. Even if it's only as a token, and disguised as a piece of jewellery, I don't see why people have such a problem with it... People have been doing it for thousands of years. (long before de beers)An evolutionary psychology explanation for dowry and bride price is that bride price is common in polygynous societies which have a relative scarcity of available women. In monogamous societies where women have little personal wealth dowry is instead common since there is a relative scarcity of wealthy men who can choose from many potential women when marrying.[1]
I understand the nature of this prostitution system. What I'm asking is why is it relevant today? Dowry is not relevant in a modern society. Women have equal rights and access to all society has to offer. Why must we bribe them, and dazzle their friends and family, with metal and rocks still? Where is romance and love in all of this?Except that "bride price" has been around since prehistoric times. I mean, people have heard of dowry and don't seem to have a problem with it, why do such people tend to recoil from the reverse situation.

There's no model that can answer that for you. It's subjective. Moissanite is very similar to diamonds but has slightly different properties that make them their own stone. You have to see one for yourself and make the choice for yourself. You didn't answer my question regarding rock valuation.
