The criticism is about people rewarding mediocre products and then acting surprised when standards continue to decline. Your response to that is basically, "I have a family and enjoy nostalgia." Congratulations. Who asked?

Your entire argument falls apart when you look at the food industry. Simply because McDonalds makes billions of hamburgers doesn't mean steak houses went out of business. People spend their money on what they like.

Every person posting in support of EQL has had terrible takes and can't even defend it other than some homosexual "shh let people enjoy things" bs. The community of serious MMO gamers should eject these non-MMO playing, non-end game raiding retards like a splinter. Nobody on this board cares about the opinion of someone who got to level 30 in EQ live and now thinks it'll be fun to 'go see the content' 30 years later. Kind of like how they have been ejected from the entire MMO industry at this point. Casual dads are the ones who pay the bills, so they are the ones who call the shots. If you want that game, you'll get it with MnM, and that ideology is why that game will fail like the rest over the past 30 years. I sincerely wish you luck with your poopsock and batphone lifestyle. The days of classic EQ ended 25 years ago. You can try to relive them on p99 if that's what you are after.

This is just factually wrong. The only profitable MMOs are all either extreme end game dungeoning, RWF raiding or PvP shitfests. What 'casual' mmos are out there that are surviving on fairweather dad players?

WOW and FFXIV and even modern day EQ. The casuals are the market they all cater to.

Do you play WoW and 14 ? As someone with active subs on all three, I can tell you that is certainly not the case. WoW (both live and classic/SoD) railroad you towards 'high end' content. M+, Mythic raiding, etc. Delves/Prey/Rituals exist as a catch up, without hitting the highest ilvl gear and housing/arcantina is all but forgotten after the first week of Midnight launch. Even 'heroic' guilds are looking at pathways into Mythic raiding this season. FF14 also has an 'all roads lead to savage' mentality, with savage and ultimate raids well supported by the developers.

Just because a community of people hang out in Goldshire or Limsa ERPing or doing quests, doesn't mean the game caters to casuals. Both games reserve the best rewards for the sweatiest retards.

That's not how it works. Games cater to their largest audiences. There's been several articles about how few WoW players are really raiders and that's basically true of all games. They spend a lot of time trying to keep the outliers because you guys spend more money on product individually but the people they truly cater to are casuals. That's why the death penalties are low. Why there's so much extra content for collectors, PVP, etc, etc. Why quests are well defined and really easy. They want both crowds but the reason WoW utterly crushed EQ was because it gave the casuals a far easier and more rewarding game. Quantity over quality every time. Sorry bud.

You're more than welcome to look at the stats in both games as to what % of the active playerbase actually participates in high level mythic or savage raiding. The minor +statserer from the high end gear is not an active draw for either game. The shiny xmogs are the main reason anyone pursues that shit at all, and usually long after it is current if they don't wait for other ways to get them like remix or tomestone events.

And I just killed my WOW sub a couple weeks ago, but still have ffxiv going. I play a lot of MMOs. Get to current stuff, play through msq, etc. Then nope out when it gets grindy and move on to the next.

EQL is a lot of fun, and much more interesting than the current TLP, so that is replacing EQ for now.

I canceled my WoW sub on June 16 when I pre-ordered EQL. I have plenty in my Steam backlog to get me to July 1

They're big enough that they can appeal to both crowds which is what they do. You say death penalties are low, but WoW did official Hardcore Realms. Both games are heavily compartmentalized and utilize different spaces to appeal to different crowds.
