I can see why they regret the CDC episode. Just don't make people think about the hows and whys.

The problem usually comes from the headshot trope. It takes some serious imagination (or ignorance) to swallow that one. A body that has been blown apart by a fucking artillery shell may as well be Hershel's head laying on the grass, it ain't going nowhere. Fucking WWZ.

At least WD does give us zombies deteriorated to the point where all they can do is lay there and rot, and can get blown apart by blasting them with piss. And that seems to be from lack of ability to catch food, rather than just aging. Presumably a "healthy" WD zombie can live forever as long as it eats. But a cripple will just starve & rot away.

At least I pretend they thought about it that much.

EDIT: Also have to pretend that Michonne's zombie gimps would have rotted to nothing over time. And all those heads in jars that were still moving. God dammit, see what happens when you think? Better to be dumb.
World war Z has probably one of the better explanations for slow zombies and why shooting them in the head is the way to kill them off.

Yeah we know that now and that's how this show deals with it but "standard zombie lore" is just they bite to spread and have no need for the sustenance. I can't remember a movie/book/comic that has them needing food.
Yeah, I thought you were specifically talking about WD since you didn't specify and this is a WD thread.

That scientist guy who was in that town with the Guvnah* explicitly says that they can starve and do need food. It just takes them a really long time to do so.

Oh spoilers for season like fucking 3 of TWD.....

If I'm wrong then there should be some seriously fat ass zombies shuffling around until they burst.
That implies they have a working digestive system. None of these are really discussed nor answered and I doubt they ever will be.

Would be hard to find enough fatty actors to play fat zombies because of the gluten free fad in hollyweird anyway!

don't have to have a digestive system, some other stories have other ways of breaking down food and using it for energy. like just having it in their mouth, the "zombie saliva" breaks the food down and stuff. this goes with special zombie cells that can transfer stuff around without using blood.
some people put a lot of work into how their zombies work, even if they don't tell the viewer/reader, just so they can be consistent. don't think this applies to anyone at walking dead inc.

The scientist just making it up as he goes with just observation of a few zombies in a pit?

I saw a few episodes of that Asylum series 'Z nation' and there was a reference to something along those lines.

They were breaking into some pharmaceutical company, checking the grounds through scopes they saw something (the audience never did) "looks like some of them got into the viagra"

Anyway, not really a good source of reference material

The CDC episode showed that the most basic part of the brain is the part that revives, so presumably they eat because that is a basic biological imperative. Of course, reproduction is also a basic biological imperative...

Ya, don't think about it too much ;p

Really, for the first few days after death, the males should be walking around with erections due to rigor mortis, but then again, if that were the case, they wouldn't be able to walk, either, because of muscle lock from rigor mortis.

Its best to just not even think about biological facts when it comes to zombies at all if they in any way supposed to be dead but still up walking around.

Haven't seen a single episode of The Walking Dead. Can I still watch this, and will it be just as enjoyable? Or should I watch The Walking Dead first?

You can watch it. It has nothing to do with The Walking Dead, other than the same world.

I enjoyed the second episode vastly more than the first one. And it felt like it was way longer than an hour, which is a good thing in this case.

I hate how every zombie series is set in a world that doesn't have zombie fantasy. "It's so weird that people come back after they die and are violent and try to bite other people. I wish there was a word to describe this!"

It wouldn't be so bad if everything else about the setting wasn't exactly our reality/history... except for the complete lack of zombie knowledge...

Hey I thought that was a much better episode. It gave me a lot of what I felt was missing from Ep1.

You got that feel of watching society start to fall apart in many different ways, all around you.

Oh and. . . how short is the life expectancy for black people on this show. We've had 3 black guys on the show as secondary characters so far and they're already gone.

Edit: I do know that the father Travis, the actor is from NZ and is of Maori decent. So I think he's playing an African American character too

This episode was definitely a significant improvement over Episode 1. Even the character drama was better. Liked the power grid and cell phone coverage issues... traffic... things that you think about, but don't realize the impact of in reducing situational awareness. I expect shit to escalate pretty quickly over the next two episodes though based on where it is now. People are already rioting in episode 2 and most people don't even understand what they should be afraid of.

One issue I had was.... why the hell did they leave the food behind in the school? Totally nonsensical.

Yea I was wondering the same thing about the food. Looks like these 6 episodes are only going to cover a few days. I think only a day has passed so far. Which makes sense if they are planning on a longer season 2. I still wish it wasn't focused on just one family but the crisis as a whole, see things break down from a whole bunch of different angles.
