I bought this on sale awhile back and was considering playing it. Lately, I have been on a Souls-like binge ( Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erd Tree & Lords of the Fallen) and now I am in the mood for more exploration and more relaxed combat. Will this game scratch that itch?
Max difficulty on this my animal crossing playing wife beat the game

My wife played it on story mode and you get like a 30 second window to cast counter spell it’s actually hilarious

Is it worth playing for just the exploration? Or should I just play the Lego version?
The exploration and main quests were pretty good. In games like this (or GTA/Cyberpunk) I don't get much enjoyment out of the busy work, such as collections, side quests that have very little variety, or "mission" type shit, so I skipped them. Still probably got ~40 hours out of it.

Well worth playing for the exploration and the world. I’m not a Potter fan or hater, but the world they built and the production quality of the game is top notch.

I agree. I am not a harry potter fan at all (or hater, just didn’t care) but they did an awesome job of replicating Hogwarts and surrounding area. I also agree that if you all the little collect stuff it starts to feel like assassins creed, but the main quests and story is great. A bit of the LGBT thing got tossed it]n but it’s not overly in your face.

in short if you think anything about potter is neat(magic, goblins, steampunk, the hogwarts, etc) it’s a solid play. As for the game technicals, it is a triple a title. Fluid combat and actions. Can get repetitive and I did bore myself out a bit trying to find all the little gizmos. But I do that same shit in all games and it’s a habit I need to break.

As others have said, it's a pretty game that does a good job of capturing the HP world. Combat will be easy for anyone with gaming experience but as the game progresses you can choose from several methods to fight. The easiest probably being stealth herbology where your plant/pets kill anything you can't isolate for a stealth one shot. It's much faster to just run and gun with the various AOE combos but really the only "challenge" to combat is limiting yourself to a subset of spells for "roleplay" purposes.

If you don't have good spatial visualization skills the castle can be a maze but you can GPS to even side objectives and there's teleports to everywhere after first visiting them. I think the use of both those aids probably takes away from some of the game but certainly useful after being sent to C bass's village for the 5th time. The first time you successfully navigate without aids to a classroom does feel good though.
