I bought this on sale awhile back and was considering playing it. Lately, I have been on a Souls-like binge ( Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erd Tree & Lords of the Fallen) and now I am in the mood for more exploration and more relaxed combat. Will this game scratch that itch?
Max difficulty on this my animal crossing playing wife beat the game

My wife played it on story mode and you get like a 30 second window to cast counter spell it’s actually hilarious

Is it worth playing for just the exploration? Or should I just play the Lego version?
The exploration and main quests were pretty good. In games like this (or GTA/Cyberpunk) I don't get much enjoyment out of the busy work, such as collections, side quests that have very little variety, or "mission" type shit, so I skipped them. Still probably got ~40 hours out of it.

Well worth playing for the exploration and the world. I’m not a Potter fan or hater, but the world they built and the production quality of the game is top notch.

I agree. I am not a harry potter fan at all (or hater, just didn’t care) but they did an awesome job of replicating Hogwarts and surrounding area. I also agree that if you all the little collect stuff it starts to feel like assassins creed, but the main quests and story is great. A bit of the LGBT thing got tossed it]n but it’s not overly in your face.

in short if you think anything about potter is neat(magic, goblins, steampunk, the hogwarts, etc) it’s a solid play. As for the game technicals, it is a triple a title. Fluid combat and actions. Can get repetitive and I did bore myself out a bit trying to find all the little gizmos. But I do that same shit in all games and it’s a habit I need to break.

As others have said, it's a pretty game that does a good job of capturing the HP world. Combat will be easy for anyone with gaming experience but as the game progresses you can choose from several methods to fight. The easiest probably being stealth herbology where your plant/pets kill anything you can't isolate for a stealth one shot. It's much faster to just run and gun with the various AOE combos but really the only "challenge" to combat is limiting yourself to a subset of spells for "roleplay" purposes.

If you don't have good spatial visualization skills the castle can be a maze but you can GPS to even side objectives and there's teleports to everywhere after first visiting them. I think the use of both those aids probably takes away from some of the game but certainly useful after being sent to C bass's village for the 5th time. The first time you successfully navigate without aids to a classroom does feel good though.

I found it to be a fun RPG but they definitely pay homage to the material. Probably worth the 9 bucks even if you never got into the source material.

Anybody who hasn't, do yourself a favor and get this while it's $9. Like Tuco said $9 is way more than worth it just to play the first half of the game.

Agree , great game. Paid full price on release for PS5 and don't regret one bit. I'm a big Harry Potter nerd though, I usually read all the books at least once every other year.

I picked it up. We will see. I never saw the movie and never got into it mainly for all the hype didn't see like it was geared for my age and I didn't have a kid. So we'll see, good reviews.

Its on gamepass as well. probably worth about 9$
I thought I commented on this. was it elsewhere? the gamepass thread probably.

it starts off well. but, loses its way big time. I got bored around 20 hours, and just stopped with no interest to go on.

Major flaws:

open world slop.
did you forget the school?

-open world slop. ok. this is a major fucking problem with modern aaa games. open worlds are the new hotness, but none of them seem to understand why they exist. make open world. fill it with minigames, and collectables. WHY? this is not the point of an open world. if you are just going to fill it with stupid busy work garbage. don't do it. the WORLD is the point of an open world. see morrowind/skyrim/skyrim/conanexiles, etc..
if you aren't confident in your open world, that you need to fill it with collectables to make me explore it. Dont fucking do it.
this is why I stopped. I was just collecting all this stupid shit. and just said no. this is gay. its not like a proper fallout/tes game where exploring you come across cool new things.
yet another game where 90% of the game is collectables and minigames.

-did you forget the school?
the first time you meet a teacher its a proper "class". then never again. no. what are you doing? we should actually be attending classes.
they did such an amazing job creating these cool and interesting teachers, and even classmates, and we barely see them.
catastrophic missed opportunity here. frustratingly rehashes movie scenes instead of exploring new wizarding world things. mandrake for example, while other dangerous plants are also in the game, and feature..

If quidditch is not in the game, due to being horribly balanced... perhaps introduce a different wizard game? multiple sports exist in the real world..

the realization of hogwarts is funny like that as well. at first it seems like an incredible realization f the movies/books. but then you notice 90% of hogwarts is hallways and atriums? where are the classrooms? the laboratories?

I loved the female pc voice actress. really nails a respectful british teen.

It's good fantasy for any age, not just kids. The books were really good, and up to movie 5 or 6 they kept it pretty close to the source material. Fucking all star cast, though, through and through.
