I have zero interest in playing a female character, especially the hyper sexualized perv-bait that these sorts of games specialize in. It helps perpetuate the stereotype of gamers as hairy knuckle mongoloids AND creates extreme SJW backlash when the pendulum heads back to the other direction.
I just dont get the point of locking classes into a sex and it always seems like its some asian shit that does it. Just alienates people that would play that class if they could just play the sex that they want to play which seems counter productive to what I think a developer would want a player to experience.

Is shadow hunter #1 on the polls because it's the easiest/cheapest to gear? At least what I keep hearing on YT videos.
It's cheaper but it's also kinda shitty before T3 I believe? But the class is just popular cause it looks cool too I think. Beta popularity isn't necessarily representative of live numbers though so wouldn't put too much weight into it regardless.

Costs more money to do the animations for both male and female, as well as design the armors and such. It's a lot cheaper for them to design classes that only use one body type with only limited customization, than to allow classes to be picked on any combination of race or gender.

This is basically why I see them doing it. Its cheaper initially. Saves time and money.

Curious how prevalent it is for the east I know BDO had it. This game has it. Tera has it somewhat(iirc some classes are gender locked and/or race locked but most arnt). That's all I can remember. I don't remember BnS having it at all.

It doesn't even register for me. I just look for the class I think I will enjoy. If I am allowed to pick gender, then look at how armor looks(males seem to always get huge bulky things), animations and thematic value to the class(like a big burly dude for a tank, but little midget girl tanks are hilarious too, so can be a toss up).

Its funny though, if you think about, every diablo game(and upcoming) uses gender locked classes, yet I feel like I don't see or hear even close to the same amount of complaints about it.

Ive seen complaints. I just dont think theyre as loud cause you dont even get the choice to design what Diablo characters look like. That class IS that character from a story stand point. I want to play the Sorceress all the time, but I just get annoyed that Im running around as a big titty slut everywhere anytime I play it. Bro I just want to laser shit, why the fuck are my tits hanging out?

Do all the costume have her tits out? I would think there are a few that do not. But not shocked a lot do, sex sales(its not just a eastern thing either). Imagine if there were body sliders, you would have the ones running around with huge Triple H or some nonsense :p

Guess who's back from vacation.

You'd know this basic shit if you, ya know, actually had played the game at launch.
That's not an argument. Only people willing to play on Korean or Russian servers really know how the game plays out, and both are only accessible by jumping through hoops. No one knows how the game will play out in US/EU, partly because of being a chimera from stuff Amazon changed and/or left out at the beginning.

Opening with insults? (technically, it wasn't an insult, it was an observation) We're mid-discussion. You were the snobby cunt who "opened" with "have you read Bartle and Koster??" Just because you attempt to veil your insults because you think you're clever, doesn't mean they don't exist.
Oh, so you felt insulted? Because I asked a question? A bit sensitive, are we?

Let's circle back to the discussion back then: You wanted a progression path separate from the (perceived as hard) raids, and I wanted to know how you want to implement that, because "you have to be careful what you wish for."

Players WILL go the path of least resistance. The similar implementation of M+ in WoW as a parallel progression path has since been "fixed" by Blizzard over the expansions. All the quirks, hacks and other stuff has been patched out, and the edges have been sanded off, the dungeon mechanics became bordering on obnoxious, while the progression has been scaled down a notch or two, with some player power systems simply not available to M+.

Current M+ in WoW seems to be a pit of misery and toxicity.

It's obvious to me you're not interested in a real discussion, only in trying to feel smart by constant desperate attempts to make others look dumb. You're failing. Your "one-size-fits-all" game design philosophy is laughable.
No, it has been pretty obvious that you are only in the thread trying to play "the authority" on the game with long paragraphs, because you played so much. You want people to ask you questions, but at the same time you can't respond when poked. "But you were so smug!" - Yeah, you can't handle smug next to your own smug.

Really eager to play this game, and don’t remember the last time I was eager to play an MMO. This is far from perfect but I’ve always wished Blizz did more with the Diablo IP and made it more persistent and went full on MMO with it.

Im eager as well, and think its primarily because it is something different than the same mmos weve been playing for 10 to 15 years now.

Game may not grab me, but hoping it will.

Sucks because ive been gaming since the Odyesse 2, but damm if not much grabs my interest past 30 mins anymore :(

Same here. It’s been a while since I actually enjoyed an MMO. The main thing I like about Lost Ark that there is no required trifecta/holy trinity classes. Granted supports are a staple but not a requirement. Therefore everyone is pretty much responsible keeping themselves alive majority of the time. No more constantly healing someone who is always standing in fire or can’t avoid boss mechanics. There’s no tank or dedicated healer to blame, only yourself.

I'm not an animator, admittedly, but it seems bonkers that making a male and female version of a character requires double or even 1.5 times as much work as creating a mono gendered one.

Other games have one set of animation for both genders and multiple 'body types' and seem capable of autoscaling textures appropriately.

Are other developers just more readily accepting of this variety or are these SE Asian devs just perverts who are fixated on making sure that female characters grope themselves and jiggle like porn stars during every move and thus can't use the same fundamental rigging for both genders?

It’s not korean devs being perverts, they simply know their audience and it’s all about making maximum coin.

This. I would say its a mix of both. I am sure gender locking saves time and money, how much, I have no clue. I mean remember, this game doesn't have any body sliders at all, so its actually pretty minimal on the character creation bit. Probably another choice to save time and money I would assume.

But they also know sex sales. To both men and women. There's a reason slutty transmogs are popular in any game that has it. You think people are going back to a level 30 dungeon in wow for fun? No they want that skimpy BP to drop and add to their transmog.

It literally halves animation sets and armor fitting requirements if you have one locked gender model. Presuming each class animates and has its own style

But... how?

Its not like males and females have a different number of limbs. Is swinging a sword fundamentally different for a male vs female? Yeah women have breasts but that should just be a torso morphology algorithm that then gets a texture map tweak if it looks like the algorithm fucked up. Hell Most of the male models in these SE asian games are incredibly girly in appearance and motion so anyone who says that creating them doubles their workload vs mono gendered is likely lying out their ass.

Animation for skills? Sure, maybe if they are truly using different animations for every single skill for every single class.

Armor? No. Males have the same model whether they are a sorceror or a knight. Or is all loot in this game character specific and every class has different Male and Female models? Because if that were the case then just LOL at the "it saves time and money!" argument.

Sure it saves some time and money, but it doesn't "literally half it" like people suggest.

Some of those reasons might be why the classes were gender locked in Lineage 1, and maybe a couple other earlier Korean mmos. But, I think at this point it's just a combination of "that's just how they (Koreans) do it" and the fact that they prefer looking at tall hot Western women in revealing clothes and hooker heels. Even in games like BDO and LA where they start offering un-genderlocked "versions" of classes, there are always way more female classes than male.

Edit: Almost forgot. Yes, the all armor and costumes (except the weird furry shit) is class and gender specific. Like warriors all get plate, and Shooters all get like trenchcoat type stuff, except Scout. And the ones that now have both genders (Striker and Gunslinger) have completely different armor than their opposite gender. And, some costumes when you wear them get locked (bound) to that class, but other just get locked to that archetype.
