40% off on PSN.....I couldnt resist as soon as I heard angry Joe call it a fortress sim with an improved nemisis system.
There's an option when accepting the EULA that you can uncheck, which will lock you out of the lootbox store and online play until you check it.

I loved the nemisis system too much in the 1st game to be able to boycott this one due to the micro bs. :( I'll definitely get my $32 worth, but still....

Buddy managed to get a few $10 digital copies from a walmart misprice thing and hooked me up. Really nice looking on the X one X at 4k and runs really smooth on the PC highest settings at 1440p. Not very far in but enjoying my time shanking orcs but god damn is the story retarded.

Tallion has always been a garbage character, the story is still underwhelming and most of the side characters are just as bad.
Combat gets just as boring eventually as the first one.

I still havent made it to the fort-sim part, but it looks like they supercharged all the stuff we liked from the first and didnt change/fix many of the complaints. I'm not complaining, just observing.

It doesn't really hurt my enjoyment since all I want to do is build an orc army, but the loot was a fun new thing I wasnt expecting.

And even though it's a slightly better game than the first, I'd be fucking blown away if it was even a contender for GOTY this year.

I'll try it out soon when I get home. My wife is putting up Christmas stuff all night :) So our tradition is I lay back and play games while she does it since she wants it to be perfect and I am bad at it.

The changes to the fight pit (speed increased) is great and happened right when I started to get annoyed with it, and the online fight pits are going to be really addicting for me.

I think the online fight pits are also a p2w outlet now, though. You're fighting your overload against some rando's overlord and the loser still dies, so it seems to me that its very obviously been implemented to increase loot box sales.

So I guess the new difficulty mode is ball-busting hard.

Only thing I don't like about what I'm hearing is the orcs have too much health, which got to be a little annoying even on Nemesis. Some orcs owuld just be health-sponges and become immune to everything you throw at them. Ex: something with fast learner + regeneration + whatever toughness attributes there are.

Anyway, now that they added a proper difficulty level I'm looking forward to another playthrough in a year or so.

I guess they figure they've milked all the cash from mtx they can and are hoping to coax in players who skipped the game because of the real cash fuckery. Their reasoning for removing them is just awesome though, "While purchasing Orcs in the Market is more immediate and provides additional player options, we have come to realize that providing this choice risked undermining the heart of our game, the Nemesis System"

Quite the revelation to make six months after release.

Nobody bought that shit. But huge numbers of people didn't buy the game because of the real cash fuckery and they aren't buying it now.

If they want to do MTX, they need to go MTX free, virtue signal about being MTX free, build up a community for the game, and then add MTX very slowly.


Still, Shadow of War is my goty.

Of course from what I've read, the 'free weekend' is a 30 minute trial demo, 20 minutes of which is cutscenes, but still requires a 90 gig download. I was gonna buy it with the sale but man these guys just can't stop being pricks can they?
