That's pretty much what they did for Dragons of Tarkir. Going to be fun games of limited with like 5 walkers in play in a lot of games. So much bookkeeping.

Karn and Ugin both have walkers, so it's at least two colorless. I don't think we're going to fit into neat cycles here. And who knows what colors Huatli and Samut will end up, since they're all over the naya map

Sets sounds shitty to me so far (and a lot of people I know online and locally are kinda disappointed so far too).

War of the Spark, most people I know are not thrilled about a planeswalker being in every pack. Especially limited focused people.

Modern Horizons most people are interested, they just hate the fuck out of the price. Was talking tonight to an LGS owner who was going to get 17 cases at min but the distributor wanted to charge something like $175 a box.

They've talked about doing static-ability planeswalkers before. I could definitely see the "common" walkers having a Static Ability and one + or - activated ability.

Plus, I'm sure they will make a ton of cards that deal with, or interact with, planeswalkers. It won't be like a normal limited environment where a planeswalker is hard to answer.
Also, if they make uncommon PW, I could see them being like 1RR +1: deal 1 damage to target player, -3: Deal 2 damage to target creature, 2 loyalty. A glorified removal spell over two turns in most scenarios.

Oh, I'm curious how that will work for mtga boosters, though. We only get 8 card boosters when opening packs, so maybe its a PW every other pack for those?

I'm expecting DFC walkers with characters on opposite sides. That gets it down to a more reasonable number, and we've already had examples of transform walkers before.

huh? Double sided/transform planeswalkers wouldn't change the number of planeswalker cards. It's gonna be 36 planeswalker cards in the set, not 36 different characters. If one card has two different planeswalkers on it, that's still just one card. In fact, I think it's more likely we get multiple versions of the same planeswalkers. i.e. 2 jaces, 2 lillys, etc.. Potentially a cycle of them, one version before the war starts, one version during/after the war.
Plus, the teaser trailer was showing like, what, 18 planeswalkers I think? If there's just 2 versions of each of them, that math would line up well.

Did a search on planeswalker cards, none of them fit any previous cards, so idk if they are just characters that haven't gotten a card yet or totally new planeswalkers.

Well sweet, cause a couple of those are my favorite looking ones. The raiden hat chick, floating barriers dude, and black predator mask guy all look sick.

#1 is Teyo Verada
#2 Rowan Kenrith?
#3 maybe Mu Yanling? Estrid?
#4 is most likely Davriel Cane

Ah, you are right about Teyo. I didn't realize he's the character in the upcoming book. I don't think #2 is rowan, though. I checked out mu yanling and estrid, those don't look likely, and I'd be really surprised if that's Davriel Cane at #4. Brandon Sanderson was in LSV's stream one day, and he said that short story was something he just wanted to write. He approached WotC and was like 'I'll write a story and give it to you, for free, but I'm doing it my way.' Maybe they liked it enough to try and incorporate him into the canon now, but the timing seems a little rushed. Unless he finished the story waaay back and they just took this long to release it. Also, while they both have masks, the rest of his aesthetic doesn't really match.

On a sidenote: hearing he did that because he just loves magic and refused payment for it made me like it even more.

edit: ah, fml, I guess it likely is him. Found this image https://i1.wp.com/skkaw.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/img_0461.jpg doing some googling, dunno if that was an official wotc pic or fan made, though. I'm a little disappointed they took his aesthetic in that direction, he seemed more like a debonair guy then that style.
