I got us our very first windows 10 Notebook with a touch interface and a removable keyboard, i.e. tablet convertible or whatever.

What PDF program is the best choice here to support both kbm input and touch only?

I've been using Mouse without Borders lately to act as a software KVM between my main PC and laptop. Mouse spans across the edge of my monitor and can also do small file transfers (under 100mb) and shares clipboard.

That is just too damn cool.

Can anyone suggest a free software that will allow me to redact a PDF? I know I can do a free trial through Adobe, but I have a feeling I will need to do this 3-5 times a year for work. I would really like to avoid paying $15 a month to use something 5 times in a year.

Try Xodo. They have a have a Windows 10 app or a web based client plus a phone app. Just make sure you save it flattened or someone else can come back and remove the black bars you add. I use it all the time to annotate PDFs.

I never saw the option to save as "flattened" but other than that it worked perfectly.

I've recently been handed a project to rebuild one of the more complex machines at my work. I'm looking for something to map out the components, connections, etc. PLC driven with pneumatic/hydraulic systems, and corresponding electrical control and sensor elements. It's a small shop so we'd rather not farm the job out.

Is Visio used for this? It's internal so i don't need CAD to meet any standards of draftsmanship.

e: what i want to create is what i see is called a P&ID diagram, plant and instrumentation.

Depending on how many elements you need, draw.io may be appropriate. I use it quite a bit at work to whip up diagrams for presentations and stuff. Not sure how well it scales for bigger projects but it's pretty slick, free, and you can export as vector art if needed.

Yes Visio has the option to do electrical/hydraulic diagrams.

Painters tape and a sharpie!

I recently had a 9 bank solenoid pneumatic system that worked off 10 relay timers and after staring at it for a while found the easiest way to understand what was getting fired when was to unhook the solenoids from the valves, run the controller, and watch.

I still need a diagram though because it's crazy not to have one so yeah visio is prob a good choice. Autocad is always annoying with these types of things imo because you always end up resizing everything 400 times.

I found this 'solution' to a problem I have been having with my plex server. The problem is my external storage would frequently go into sleep mode, even with adjusting power settings on the computer.

NoSleepHD v2.0

This app writes an empty txt file to each of your drives at predefined intervals.

I had considered configuring something in the task scheduler to do something like this but this does a simpler job of it.

I stumbled onto 'Emby Server' for my home network. This is the bomb. I was sharing a directory with all the movies the family liked and it was working but clunky, now all is smooth.

It looks just like NetFlix as an interface with multi logins and configurable avatars for the users - passwords optional. It even suggests what other shows that I have are similar and sorts by Genres, favorites, Episodes, Folders (I use this since i put the movies and shows where they go), and even lists the Latest Movies added for a quick watch. It is stinking great and free for the home network. Yes there is a cost for external access, but my DSL speeds can not provide that anyway.

It is my understanding it is similar to a Plex server, but I have never tried that - so I have no comparison. This is the best way to serve 4TB of stuff to my fam. (if anyone has better Ideas on how to do this plz let me know.

Sounds like Plex. Plex is king.

It allows sharing to devices across internet not jut local, it can also encode videos in realtime into whatever format is needed for a specific device.

Plex is great but takes some times to set up. I had a lot of lag at first on most movies I had; i thought that it was the 4k, or the codec, etc. so it took me a lot of time-consuming transcoding until I found the culprit : the fucking picture-based subtitles. At least I learned a lot of things about videos ;)

I find a better option to streaming outside through plex ports is to setup a vpn to your home network and stream/rdp/access whatever you want

what do you guys recommend so i can disect my hard drive, somehow something is using up 60-70 gigs and the only thing i can think of is modern warfare beta, when i went to uninstall it, it wasnt live anymore so it gave me some weird error saying couldent uninstall through the loader cause the beta was over and now when i go into add/remove it tells me to do this, wich i cant thats why im having the issue

"This error typically occurs when the application being installed was already uninstalled. Before attempting troubleshooting, launch the Battle.net Desktop Application and check the blue button on the game tab. If the button says Install, the game was already uninstalled. If it says Play, or you receive this error with the Battle.net Application itself, follow the steps below."

Space Sniffer. It is even on the first post of this thread for convenience. I use it quite often to see where all my space is going (spoiler alert, it's porn).

There was an old windows process analysis program I used to use about 12 years ago called HTfireman. Has anyone hear of it? The only thing that comes up when searching for it is the HT fireman CD software. That company bought the rights to the title.

Haven’t heard of it. What did this do that you are bringing it up 12 years later? Windows 10 Task Manager is pretty decent combined with google searches.
