Welp, looks like I'm rocking this machine for the next 398 years. Thanks for the tip, bro.
In my defense, I credited you in the Desktop Computers thread where I first posted it!He copied my build!!! I got 2x32GB DIMMs to soft future proof a bit, but I also do a lot of weird shit.
Will this finally let me run EverQuest in a chrome tab with all luclin graphics on?

I blatantly took most of your build because it was pretty in-line with what I wanted, and like you I felt it was worth a couple hundred bucks more to make sure I would be good for maybe another 10 years. Thank you for doing most of the work for me, it has been 6 years (my current computer) since I last really looked at this shit!

I've been wanting/needing to upgrade my machine for the past couple weeks and have put it off because the end of this month is typically bonus time (end of our fiscal year) so I wanted to see how much I had to play with, but it has been steadily getting worse, and last night my computer basically shit itself so I can't wait anymore. I ordered pretty much everything as it was off of that list, except for the gpu which I had already grabbed for much less. I appreciate your advice and efforts, and please don't think I'm just ignoring your suggestions, but I don't really have time to wait for someone to build it and ship it, as opposed to everything should be here this weekend, Monday at the latest when they inevitably get shit mixed up. I'm fine with building my own, even if I won't be taking pics of it to post for fear of everyone shitting on my cable management, but it will do everything I need it to do so that's good enough.
Thank you for your efforts though, I do appreciate them.
Ah just joking anyways. I usually obsess over components but this time just kind of read a few reviews and took what I thought might be the best. Hope for both of us turns out goodIn my defense, I credited you in the Desktop Computers thread where I first posted it!

Y’all be spending all this money on unnecessary RAM when what you really need is a 2050W PSU.
I was gonna install a 240v line to my office at some point in the next few years. I figure with nvidia's focus video card girth, its only a matter of time.Need 240v plug to get full wattage. I wonder how many have that in the US near their computer? I don't and have 240v outlets in several places. None near my computer. Maybe when google gets their nuke plants up and running they will get into minaturization for it.
Well that escalated quickly.I've not been keeping up on the 5 series but I'm seeing 5090s popping up in stock for more than 7 seconds at places, so of course the upgrade bug is being a bit of an asshole. I game at 4K with a 4090, and the only reason I'm even mildly considering the upgrade is that I can sell my card used for more than I bought it for and net out to roughly $1000 out of pocket for a 5090. Of course that's not exactly chump change, and while the 5090 benches appreciably better at 4K I wouldn't call it a dramatic difference. I'm also not thrilled with the higher power draw both at idle and under load and that the card could possibly bang up against the limits of my 1000w power supply. Waiting for the 6 series is the correct answer, yes? (assuming tariffs haven't turbo-fucked things even further by then)
The 2 sticks vs 4 sticks has to do with the memory topology of the mobo. I remember when I did my 5800X build, there was a google doc going around with all the available mobos and what topologies. Daisy chain is cheaper to make and and by far the most common. It performs best with 2 sticks, while t-topology does better with 4 sticks.
The difference is because the traces from the slot to the memory controller are different lengths in daisy chain and all the same in t-topology. With daisy chain you want to use the 2 slots with the shorter traces.

yea ddr is really annoying, remember when we could mismatch ram and just in whatever we wanted?More ram sticks also means you have more chances to get a defective stick and especially one that doesn't tune as well.
Lots of ram can mean more time to post and verify stability, so there are reasons to not buy an excessive amount that may never be used.
