The game is gorgeous and they've put a lot of work into it but it just doesn't seem to come together right. Such as never being able to see those gorgeous spell effects because the screen gets so inundated with them that you have to raise transparency to 100% to have any chance of survival.

Brotato's beta branch was just updated with their 1.0 release. Bunch of new taters, weapons, and items. Supposed to be officially released on 6/23, but I got vacation coming up so I'll just wait for the full release.

tepid positive for Army of Ruin. It's very genre standard with little in the way of innovation, but it's fairly well polished and one of the better examples of 'vanilla' enemy hells.

Having trouble find something that scratches the itch quite like Rogue Genesia, but RICE is starting to grow on me.

That Death Must Die demo shows some great promise.

Vampire Survivors-like gameplay, aRPG simple loot/gear drops, and Hades style power upgrades. Multiple characters (seems like just first 2 in the demo) and items travel between runs. Looking forward to it's release.

Flawless on steam deck too.

Did a couple runs last night. Good aesthetic and for $4 you can't go wrong.
This one gets the thumbs up from me too. Nice diablo vibe- cool risk reward for saving particular loots. Pretty dang hard tho. Weird not having a dash. Kept mashing space by reflex. lul

Halls of Torment is pretty good so far, I've played about 4 hours of it just since last night.

Halls of Torment is fun as hell - I've already logged over a dozen hours, and I can see getting at least a dozen more out of it. For $4, it's easily the best thing I've bought during the Steam Summer Sale.

I've enjoyed it the past couple of nights also. Steam says 7.5 hours so far and I've been mostly goofing off. Just unlocked the Exterminator. Still haven't focused on any real builds, just messing with things here and there and can clear 1st zone pretty regularly.

A little pricier than some of the others, but the production value is pretty high. I'm liking it so far, but like everything nowadays it is Early Access, so who knows. Getting teammates is pretty fucking cool though.

Only issue I have with it so far is that it is dark as fuck (on purpose I'm sure) and it can be a bit tough to see wtf is going on at times, where the enemies are vs. your player (particularly when you have buddies around you), that sort of thing. Oh, and the reload mechanic, while I get it, takes some getting used to. Early game on this one is fairly rough, but then again what VS clone isn't I guess?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and fucking fabulous music on this one!

I didn't like Halls of Torment. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but the pacing of the monsters was too dense at times to where it just felt unfair.

The "loot" is pretty sparse, they should have leaned into this facet a lot harder.

And the "skills" you get are about as meh as they come.

I wish them the best, and hope this gets better, but it is a definite refund for me.

I kinda echo this, but I didn't refund it. It's $4. lol. I mean, its worth that, even in a state that I'm not overly impressed with it. It's not bad, but there's something to be said for VS being able to just decimate everything at some point.

I like the low key nature of Halls compared with the, say, spam fest effect seizure of Soulstone. It does feel very long going back to the 25-30m stages that tend to drag for the first 15m. But after a couple hours and some damage upgrades then it waves and enemy density are less annoying. Then they become annoying again.

Anyways, yeah I enjoy it. We’ll see for how long. Now that I’m back home from the road I need to try VS and a couple of the other ones.

I found Hot also a bit too simplistic and not well balanced, I enjoyed Soulstone Survivors a lot more in every aspect. Currently playing "Mars Survivors" which does not have much content yet but plays nicely. One thing I noticed that I find "Vampire Survivors" buttugly after all the better looking clones.
