But, really, I tell all my patients (especially gay ones) to go Konsyl if they don't wanna nair their behind.
Only an honorary gay here (miss you Kuriin!), but you turned me onto Konsyl a few years ago, and I just wanted to ask if you were aware that there is a Kirkland brand version of it available. Substantially cheaper than the Konsyl brand. Of course, I use the capsules because I don't like drinking the powder, and the capsules are rape-tier pricing, but the Kirkland brand is a lot more affordable. For the rest of you that might not be sure what to look for, just look for psyllium husk fiber on Amazon and find the Kirkland versions.

Since taking psyllium fiber, my poops, Sir, are gigantic and have no more odor than a hot biscuit. Well ok, that odor part is a lie, but it was part of the quote.

I'm not a fan of capsules because you have to take a shit ton of pills to equal one tablespoon. I think it's like 4-8 pills to one tablespoon. Just easier to quickly drink. ;-p

Great thing about psyllium is that you have ghost poops. One wipe and go compared to no psyllium: thousands of wipes and dingleberries no. ;(

What's your take on ED/ER scribes? Net benefit or just another 'specialist' admin taking up space?

I've worked in a few hospitals and personally have never seen a scribe in action. I think perhaps in a major level 1 trauma center where there's nonstop action, there would be a need. Otherwise, physicians should have more than enough time to sit down and chart.

Take it for what it's worth, but before this new wave of scribes started invading the EDs a few years ago, the number of instances where I am giving report directly to a doctor instead of through a nurse or medic first, was much lower. I speak directly to doctors more frequently now than I used to. I'm not sure how valuable that is in actual reality in terms of patient outcome, but it does appear to be a thing. I might be mistaking correlation for causation as well.

Level 1's have such an army of motherfuckers in the ED. They got Residents and Interns coming out their ass like a hot biscuit. It seems more physically and personally taxing to be a 'regular' MD in a 'regular' sized ED that is just getting hammered with endless bullshit for hours on end, though. There is no way a scribe isn't useful there. My 2 cp.

I ordered some of those Kirkland brand fiber capsules. If my poop doesn't get better, you're getting negs!

But is there any downside to the pills besides having to take 4-5 of them vs. a tablespoon? I hate the taste of that shit so I'll take pills over powder.

There isn't any downside that I'm aware of, but then again my butthole is only for my personal use, so maybe my standards aren't quite as exacting! I take 4 a day and it seems to work well.

The ingredients are exactly the same between the Konsyl and the Kirkland brand, so I can't imagine there would be any difference. Except the price. That Konsyl shit is outrageous.

All psyllium is really the same. If you can find it really cheap and have no problem taking it in pill form, go for it. You will have the best poops.

psyllium is not the same as acedophyllus, right? I'm probably spelling that shit wrong, but acedophyllus is live bacteria like you'd find in good yogurt. You can put it in milk overnight to check if it's alive. I think I've taken psyllium husks and it tore my guts up.

Acidophilus is indeed bacteria, similar to lactobacilis. Psyllium shouldn't wreck havoc on your intestines unless you are taking way too much and not drinking enough water, then it will constipate you as it's both a bulk former and a laxative.

I got the Kirtland brand; I await glorious poops. Haven't been regular at all since I got to this 115F hellhole.

It's possible I wasn't drinking enough water. I thought I was and my pee was only slightly yellow. Nowadays I'm trying to drink a gallon a day and that's obviously a lot more. If the last experience with psyllium hadn't been so horrible I might be inclined to try again. BTW, I don't recall constipation, I remember WW3 in my stomach with nuclear shits. I tried to push past it and took em for a few days, I didn't get better till a couple days after I stopped.
