Only thing I've found that blocks them is UBlock Origin. It is free. Didn't work for me initially but the next day it did.
Twitch added ads few months back and has been screwing with getting around blockers. Doesn't matter if you sub or Prime anymore. Only way to remove them is Turbo for $8.99 a month and Ublock Origin as far as I know.

I've had UBlock Origin for quite a while now and has always worked. Whatever happened overnight I'm getting ads now. Shit is grinding my gears.

Adblock Plus is an inferior addon with permitted whitelised ads that they get paid off for. It's one of the various reasons why ublock supplanted adblock years ago

The channel (the one channel) that I'm subbed to, I've never seen any ads on. On all the others? Yep.

I think the streamer can still disable it, just now that most people are going to be hit with them, many have them enabled. In the month or so I've had ublock I have not seen a single ad on any channel.

, make sure you have all the filter lists checked. I am not sure which one does it but when I was searching for a solution to the new ad system, some people on reddit mentioned having to enable them or reloading ublock to get it to work. There is a thread out there with far more information than I can provide, but for me at least it is working 100%.As for adblock plus, that is what I had for ages until these ad changes. It was worthless preventing them on twitch after the change.

Explains why partially at least why ublock does and doesn't work. It is when I did the following and reloaded the browser that they went away and stayed away the past month:
3rd party filters tab. Purge cache then update.
Then run a good malware/adware scan on your system (this seems to usually be the problem...). Malwarebytes is what I use.
I didn't have any spamware, but the purge and update did it. When I installed ublock, I remember it wasn't working until I did this and I seem to recall on a few channels I was still getting ads even after that. The following day and everyday since, no ads.

You all should be running noscript along with your adblocker anyway. Twitch has something like 15 scripts from various domains running and only 3 need to be permitted to actually use the site with full functionality. I wouldn't be surprised if the absence of it is why you're seeing ads despite blocking ads.

With ublock origin only (Chrome) I haven't seen any ads at all. In fact I just tried clicking the first streamer for every game on the top row and did not get any start of stream ads.
I used to have it disabled so i could manually watch ads for free bits, but once Turbo came out I flipped it on and zero issues.

yeah ads started for me a while back too (ublock Origin and amazon prime), i installed twitch alternative player and it is all good again and the UI is much cleaner and nicer now
