Well, I never...

I had just reinstalled Skyrim a couple of weeks ago, after nearly two years of not having touched the game. Wanted to see if a couple of years of mod evolution had made it worth a revisit. I had forgotten just how ugly, clunky and PC unfriendly the Vanilla game was/is, and as usual had re-downloaded several Gig of mods to have another look. LOL at the timing, I haven't even made it to Whiterun yet.

Un-installing, for good this time, and referring to my original post on the matter, garbage Bethesda console ports are now automatic bargain-bin fodder from here to eternity.
Time to yarr.

They've sacrificed Skyrim so by the time Fallout 4 or next Elder Scrolls game is announced the the rage will have died down. All that will be left is a bunch of defeated apathetic gamers willing to pay $4.99 to fix a purposely shitty UI left in from the console version because the developers know people will pay to fix it.

I just don't even understand how Valve thought this was a good launch idea.

FIRST PERSON TO UPLOAD GETS MONEY!!!

Yeah, it's just...silly. The thing is? They HAVE curated mod shops already. And they work really well. So you have to wonder, why even try this ridiculous method?

This nonsense especially galls me for mods like SkyUI, which isn't really a mod and more a "make the UI usable on PC" patch. I don't have a problem with buying content mods, since that is extra content; but mods like SkyUI, and the unofficial patch mods are the equivalent of Bethesda charging money for basic updates to fix stuff you already paid for.

Bethesda should be the ones buying or licensing SkyUIand integrating it into their game by default. PC users already paid for a game and they have every right to expect a reasonable user interface for it. Having to pay to fix your own game is the height of bullshit.

I'm with most of the rest that this is one of the absolute dumbest things I've seen in a long time. One just has to wonder wtf they were thinking (or smoking)! Nexus mods is (read: was) one of the best damn sites on the internet with a fucking kick-ass community. I don't see them surviving this much.

So are the free Skyrim mods that were there before, still there for free?
A lot of them are being taken down and put back up as paid. Not all, but a significant proportion. SkyUI is one of the big ones that's going behind a paywall, and I'm pretty sure a shit load of other mods rely on it to function.

As scumfucky and incompetent as this entire thing is, I wouldn't doubt that Steam charges your wallet for all installed mods.

lol.

If you already have it (a mod that was free before but is now a pay mod) will you still need to buy it?
Yeah it looks like there's like pop ups or some sort of in game thing that tells you to buy the mod now or some shit. I don't know all the details, but that's what I've seen people saying around the internet. I haven't actually downloaded Skyrim and installed it to check personally though.

That's fucked up that they would make you buy it if you already have it. With that logic, a developer could put a mod up for $15....then later change the price to $30. Opps, you need to now pay the rest.

What this really amounts to is two things. Looks like I'm never playing Skyrim again and looks like I'm never buying another modable game through Steam ever again.

The whole thing is bigger disaster than 50 years of unwarranted American international military aggression.

We're at full blown second shoah tier here. People are being frog marched into trains hell bent for Sobibor and shit.

Okay maybe I'm overstating it a tad, but yeah. Its a complete shit show of incompetence. I can't see how this doesn't end badly for everyone involved.

The thing is, I really couldn't give a flying shit about Skyrim.

Its Fallout 4 I'm worried about with this shit.
