Every update it veers more west. Now the prediction which can change has it hitting the handle not main Florida.
Yeah I juat checked the update. After 50 years in Florida i trust storm projections as much as I trust political polls.

Looks like American models has it hitting the Panhandle and European has it rolling right over over us still. Hope the American models are correct.

You have a better chance of a political poll being accurate than a Hurricane projection.

Keep in mind what isnt being discussed (because the news only likes to post fearporn) is that this storm is gonna cut across the mountains of Cuba. Not the shredding it would take if it was going East to West, but those mountains are close to 1,000' along the spine and should still damage its formation crossing South to North.

If I was in Mississippi, I'd be keeping an eye on this.

Andrew really woke people up to building codes and how older buildings just weren't built to withstand strong storms. A cbc house built since 2000 to S Fla storm code is fine against anything but an actual direct hit by a tornado. Camille was a beast, but it was a different time.

They really are not worried about wind with this one its flooding since the west coast will be on the east side of the storm during high tide. I am south of Sarasota so we are staying but if i lived in a zone A or B in Hillsborough (Tampa) or Manatee (North Sarasota / Bradenton) I would leave. They have already started with the mandatory evacuations in those counties.

Its weird but I kind of feel like the forecast is not strong enough. The Gulf has seen no weather related activity to draw out the heat of the waters. Those waters are about as good as it gets for a hurricane to gather strength. If it goes west enough over Cuba, this thing could be a monster of a hurricane given the time of year and water temperature. If Cuba does manage to weaken it, then it will barely be a class 4 but if it doesn't...

I think the downgrade of strength as it nears the cost is that the waters become significantly cooler as it moves north through the gulf. Its they show it peaking about halfway through the gulf.

Storm is going to sit over Florida for at least 12 hours. Pretty slow moving storm.
