i've never called addicts victims. they aren't. and i'm not a leftist.

thats nice. however most do paint them as victims and most are leftists.

addiction is just a disease, amirite?

must be the only disease in the world that can be overcome by willpower alone.

i mean... plenty of diseases are overcome the same way. if you have heart disease, the answer is generally changing your lifestyle, which is why so many people suffer from heart disease, because they don't have the willpower to change and then maintain those changes.

but i don't know any substance abuse counselors who paint their clients as victims. lefties, sure, because their entire mentality is bent on praising victimhood. but health professionals don't really do that. we are just in tune with the concept that there are external situations that impact addiction. we don't leave it at that, though, we say "well, we can't change that your wife died and you lost your job and you're experiencing a series of events that have made it difficult to find long term answers, what CAN we change?"

it's not the same because you said it's not. but if we decide not to take the armchair opinion of a weirdo russian without a degree in medicine...

you DO understand how common it is for diabetics to not follow dr recommendations, right? BOTH types 1 and 2 diabetics. you also understand that generally type 2 diabetes develops from people who lack the willpower to eat healthily especially when that means changing a lifetime of poor eating habits?

stop moving goal posts.

you can have a shitty diet all your life and never develop heart disease. or you can be just straight up born with it and no matter what your diet is, you'll drop dead at 18 walking up the stairs.

you can be diagnosed with heart disease at 40, continue to like eat shit for next 40 years and live till the ripe age of 80. or you can take all the doctor recommendations and still die at 41.

Drug addiction is a purely self-inflicted condition that relies purely on the willpower of the drug addict to conquer. Which is not the case at all for people with heart disease.

But its very telling that you think people need a degree in medicine to explain this basic shit. Your profession is quackery that hides behind bogus credentialism. Its why your immediate go-to is to demand my credentials.

but you're wrong.

a) people can use substances for years and never develop an addiction. you know, as evidenced by all the people who drink regularly but who aren't alcoholics. same way someone can have a terrible diet but never develop heart disease
b) if someone is diagnosed with heart disease and they make every change in the world that their doctor recommends, they can still die, correct, the same way that an alcoholic can die from alcoholism despite being clean. sometimes there are just permanent damages from years of bad habits.

if you absolutely need to continue this conversation, why don't we move it to private messages, since... you know... this has now gone completely off topic.

meanwhile, a heroin addict fears withdrawal like nothing else on earth, but legitimately no one ever died from opiate withdrawal (unless there were comorbidity issues)
