You are right about "most of us" (I assume) but we arent the 20 mill that WoW touched upon at some point, we're just a tiny, bitter fractions of that. I'm thinking of the player that had WoW as their first MMO back in vanilla when everything is still exciting and magical, and then it slowly turned into "just a game" over the next 5 years... now Wildstar wants to rewind back to WoW vanilla. Hell Wildstar might be to those people what EQ3 is too many on this forum, the holy grail. I might be wrong of course, it's a coin toss.

My main gripe with non-sub games, be it F2P or B2P: items that should add interesting content and goals to play for for a few hours each are instead reduced to a swipe of the credit card that takes a minute. Less content to devour, faster boredom. I know I harp on that alot but GW2 failed big in their post-release support by throwing too much in the shop. Remember that different skins and looks are supposed to be GW2's endgame and think about this: To date there are zero new armor skin sets that you obtain through playing the game. The gem shop "only" got 2-3 sets but that is infinitely more I guess. It's similar with weapon skins.

I agree about this. People like that kind of content especially since they promised it. It's like they just canned the guy supposed to do this after release and haven't thought to add any of it since there no daily reminder. Making it so easy to level and then adding few new perks that can be visibly noticed is a huge failure. Content is good and that means any content.

I also agree that this game could do great. WoW was very popular far longer than it should have been. This game could scratch that itch for people that like that old stale of gameplay. Of course, this game has a lot of competition from similar type games like TESO, FF14, and even WoW itself.

Just looking at the thriving community on Emerald Dream and the other FTP wow emu's indicates there is definitely an appetite, but you're right, there is a lot of competition in the space both current and coming. That said, I don't have much confidence in Bethesda's ability to deliver TESO - not anything against them, they are amazing, but there are more failure stories of companies moving from single player -> MMO than there are successes. FFVI did not appeal to me and I am pretty sure it won't for many others as well and WoW, frankly put, has nothing left for anyone who does not want to raid or play pokemon.

I would LOVE to be wrong about TESO and EQ:N and have all three games to pick from, but my confidence is low and while I am not saying WildStar is the second coming, it does have stickiness and the devs are saying the right things (60% of resources allocated to end game primarily).

Raign,

I agree that out of the games I mentioned, this is the best option. Wow will keep diehards, as will TESO and FF14. I honestly think EQN will kick this game's ass but it's far away and there's plenty of pie to divide. This game's best shot at Eve-like long term numbers is the familiar gameplay with the new setting. It will be a successful franchise and will be pretty fun as well.

Some of those areas are looking to be mighty pretty.

Could care less about the F key thing, but it's better than just standing there like a fucking idiot for 3 seconds I suppose. Disarm and disorient are fantastic though. I foresee goofy ass raidboss fights coming.

It's actually pretty interesting to me. The f key as bayr so intelligently put it looks to be just for the stun, each other CC has a different counter/effects, that actually makes sense to that CC. Knockdown = roll, disarm = go get your weapon, disorient = opposite movement etc. Will be interesting to see counters/effects for them all.

The world looks and feels absolutely amazing. Half of the time I just sat there with my jaw on the ground soaking everything in. I've enjoyed my time with it and I hope the game does very well.

My interest in Wildstar is nearly nonexistent, but those dev diaries are far more entertaining than they have any right to be.

EQ:N needs to hire these guys for PR, their used car salesman just doesn't present a good face.

I imagine with the used car salesman it's an unfortunate case of "I'm the boss," and he insists on being the face of the project.

Even if the game is a disappointment to people here, I am buying it for the enjoyment I get out of the devspeaks and the character intros. And I seriously doubt people that are as clued in as these guys are going to make a crap game that does not entertain more than some of the drivel put out by non mmo developers.

"mash your F key" truly innovative
For coming up with cool things for being disarmed (and having to retrieve your weapon) and rolling out of knockdown, I do think they could've come up with something a little better than "mash your keyboard!" to break out of a stun.

And while their boss CC system looks to be similar toDefiantfrom GW2, I hope it works better. GW2 always felt like you could just spam CC on bosses and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. There never really felt to be any strategy to it.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Their dev diaries are excellent, probably the best I've seen from any game, ever.
Not just the dev diaries, but their actual promo videos are definitely among the best too. ToR did have amazing CGI videos, but I don't think they did as much to get me interested in the game as the charm and humor in the Wildstar videos.

They chose to go subscription eh? Crazy

That's FF14, TESO, and now Wildstar

I have to admit, this fact means I won't be playing any of them. Not just because they are B2P, I found FF14 super boring, TESO's combat looks like a nightmare to me, and well, Wildstar just doesn't do it for me. It's not like I can't afford it either. I drop serious coin in micro transactions if they are interesting. I've dropped $200 on vanguard this year alone. It's just, what are they offering that is so compelling when compared to F2P alternatives? Or, dare I say it, WOW?

Is this a smart decision for a new IP? I wonder what their development costs were.
