The start is kinda wonky, but honestly I think they streamlined the experience rahter well over the years. It's still a Diablo, you need to get resists, but most of the new skills absolutely break the game while levelling.

TBH I think they could have waited with flares and dynamite until you hit endgame. There's no way to have enough azurite to keep everything upgraded and then the flares are really pitiful and every wall needs multiple dynamites, not to mention anything about upgrading the cap.
