See, this is the mindset that allows Blizzard to perpetually destroy the Diablo secret sauce. They sold that many Diablo 3 copies based purely off of Diablo 2, clever marketing cross-franchise (Buy WoW for a year, get D3 free!), and other shit that had nothing to do with the actual game itself.
