So has this game gotten anywhere close to being as good as Civ4 Beyond the Sword? I don't even think Civ5 go to that level

I'm a huge Civ fan but I have held off on this one due to everyone shitting on it. I played a little of it when they had the free weekend but not much. At $15 it's almost worth a roll of the dice to see if it has been improved.

Motion to name the next Civ thread 'Civilization Whatever - Not as good as Civ 4' and then just lock it since the title serves the same purpose as nearly every Civ thread post.

Base game he's right though. Mods weren't a thing yet when civ2 was out.

I remember changing the ini file to make roads 1/5 instead of 1/3 and small tweaks like that.

was the expansion any good? did it elevate civ 6 to the lofty heights of 1/3 of the might of civ IV?

I mean, the retarded AI pretty much perma-dunks on it for any enfranchised Civ player. But it's probably a pretty great expansion for people just rolling through casually.

Sandstorms/Floods/Volcanos make one of the rise-and-fall governors pretty great (she was given the ability to block the negative effects of natural disasters, while still reaping the benefits). Desert natural disasters will create a new generation of Petra Porn screenshots. The new civs are power-creeped enough to make sure the casual player has a guaranteed "good experience" playing them.

Its free to play at the moment for several days I believe so you can try at least rise and fall out. Not sure if gathering storm is included in that.

Well its released now. I'm playing Hungary for my first game. Its turn 83, and holy god, Hungary is utterly broken OP. I've levied a single city-state (with its 6 warriors) and I'm fighting 3 other civs at once (Spain, Georgia and Netherlands) on 2 fronts and I'm just rolling over them. I researched swordsman tech and levied troops get free upgrades. No gold, no iron, just have the tech and suddenly I have 6 swordsmen, and not just swordsmen but swordsmen with +5 strength and 4 move. Spain has lost one city and is about to lose its capital which will leave it with just the city state it conquored. Netherlands has had 1 city razed by a lone swordsman and is losing another soon leaving it with 2, and Georgia has lost one which was on my way to Spain, and has 3 left. And I still have 17 turns left on the levy out of the original 30 and the cash to re-up the levy if needed. They are so totally doomed.

Edit- Ok, not as doomed as I thought- Spain is dead and its victim liberated, and Netherlands did lose that city, but Georgia held on with the help of big walls, Victor and the unexpected massive increase in the price of re-levying my city-state resulting in the sudden removal of my swordsmen. But I broke open a good breathing space for myself from my original position of being surrounded and limited to 3 cities, so now I can grow, and next time... next time.... Well using the same city state will get me 5 experienced swordsmen and 3 crossbowmen at least, so... :)

Edit #2- Second levy of the same city state is complete and Georgia is toast, and with 1 turn to spare so are the Maori. Bit of a traffic jam heading north to finish the Netherlands and have the continent to myself.

Edit #3- Third levy of the same city state has just started on turn 163, with the half-price levying civic. Netherlands will die, its just a question of how much blood is involved.

Yeah, she should be powerful in a creeping kudzu kinda way but I wanted to try the Hungary Blitz first for a higher energy game than my usual.

On top of getting to delete your starting neighbors, you also get a billion bonus envoys in the process, meaning you should be suzerain of every city state you encounter.

You would think so but there were only 3 on the continent, the other civs beat me to all of them so no free envoy to pair up with Amani for early suzerein and then Spain squashed one leaving only 2 to choose from, so getting suzerein of that first one was tricky. Turns out theres an island off the Spanish coast just out of their sight with 4 more on it and a smaller one below that with 2 more, none of whom had been met by anyone even this long into the game. 36 total envoys now, including 6 from first discovery and 3 from liberating one.

I ended up buying this on sale. After a couple of start/stops to learn some of the new mechanics, I did a full play through and got a Science Victory with Rome. I have to say that I do like some of the changes, e.g. Districts. All of the bitching I heard about the AI I assumed meant it was weak strategically but what I found annoying was that the retards were constantly bouncing back and forth between positive relations and denouncing/declaring war. This was with me being purely defensive and peaceful.

Finally I just opened a can of whoop ass. Probably could have gotten domination but I think that would have become pretty tedious.

Overall, pretty good experience for $15 but the diplomacy retardation and staple Civ stupidity of things like knights being able to damage modern armor degrades the experience.

this expansion sucks and this game suck

not sure how they manage to make this game so absolutely boring

edit: I say this as a civ 4 fanboy and civ 5 kinda fanboy - I've always known it takes a couple expansions for a civ to come into it's own but fuck civ 6 I have major regrets buying the expansion and i'm done with the franchise
