My router and PC were negotiating at 100Mbps and I could not figure this shit out.

I flashed to the latest firmware - even went custom (think dd-wrt, but different). Nothing. At some point I was negotiating 333Mbps, but still not full. Then my PC was back capped at 100. I ran new cat6 through my house, nothing. Downloaded the latest killer drivers, nope .

I plugged my old ass laptop in and instantly it was 1Gbps. Weird. Restarted the router and PC at least 100 times between the two. Shit made no goddamn sense. Started shopping for PCi nics then figured I'd make sure I had space.

On a whim I unplugged and plugged in the Ethernet cable on the PC, problem solved. Negotiated to 1Gbps .

Let my stupidity be the lesson for the day. Although, it was a new cable I had just plugged in yesterday, so not sure what chain of events actually made it work.

Sometimes this shit just seems purely random or some kind of black magic. When it works I just don't question it anymore.

Well it bothers me because I have a computer engineering degree haha. My only guess is replugging it in forced an IP change or forced a renegotiation

How's the Nvidia Shield TV looking in CURRENT YEAR?

I'd be using it for Kodi, Plex, YouTube, and Netflix primarily. But open to whatever other awesome things it can do.

Cord cut. Had 150MB + basic vid. was paying ~140 a month. Now I am internet only. $49 a month for 12 months and $65 after, and I own my modem. Arris/Moto SB6190, so I am good up to 1 GB if comcast starts peddling that out here.

Thinking about moving my cell phone over to Comcast. $12 a month for unlimited talk and text, and 1 GB data.

I have 3 shields and love them. They work great. Easy to side load apps if you want too. Only thing I don't use is plex on it. The 500gb model can act as a plex server though. If you do end up getting one, get terrarium tv apk for it.

How's the PS4 for streaming media? (Plex streams, YouTube, and Netflix)

If I'm going to drop a fat dime on an Nvidia box, would it be worth it to look at the PS4 as well?

It is worth it my wife and I are both on comcast cell and pay $17.78 a month for both of us since we do not use 1GB data together a month.

I exclusively use the PS4 for streaming. It works wonderfully.

I use Plex and Netflix everyday. Also I get psvue for my cable needs at $40/month. Took awhile to get used to the UI but now I love it.

Looks like the Amazon Fire Cube is coming soon. No specs out as far as I know but it appears to be a echo with full Alexa voice and 4k pendant in one.
If the specs are good enough I may finally ditch cable and go with Direct TV Now. Especially since they running the $10 a month for the first few months deal.

On the day I have Amazon Fire TVs delivered they release the cube. FFS. Thinking about sending them back and ordering the cubes since it is only 13 days away
Not sure why the link is broken. It works.

Fire TV Cube is the first hands-free streaming media player with Alexa, delivering an all-in-one entertainment experience. From across the room, just ask Alexa to turn on the TV, dim the lights, and play what you want to watch.
  • With far-field voice recognition, eight microphones, and beamforming technology, Fire TV Cube hears you from any direction. Enjoy hands-free voice control—search, play, pause, fast forward, and more. Plus, control your TV, sound bar, cable or satellite box, receiver, and more with just your voice.

You best be moving into the bunker then.
Your cell phones track your every move and word spoken.
Your street lights watch you enter and exit your car and zoom in at night when you are dancing in your underwear.
Google/Facebook( even if you don't have facebook it turns out! ) and now Microsoft scan your activities, location, browsing constantly.
Amazon probably does the same. That said, if you want Amazon features but not a live microphone, get the Fire TV instead. The microphone is only active while pressing the button and many have tested it to prove no data traffic occurs when it isn't being pressed.

I get it brah, I really do. No one wants privacy more than me, but you can't eliminate it from your life. Well you could if you want to live in 1990.
Me personally, I talk dirty to Alexa and she likes it. I've been teaching her all about Trump.

If you don't want anyone listening unless you push a button, then there's really no reason not to just get an nVidia Shield. Now, I don't know if the sideloading of Chrome on the Shield compares to the Silk or Firefox browsers on that Cube, but personally if I want to google something (and I'm not sitting at a computer) I'd rather use my phone or a tablet than my giant TV screen. The browser stuff and voice activation is honestly the only thing I see as a plus(??) to the Cube over the Shield.

Granted, I assume the Shield costs more than a FireTV, but probably worth it.
