I am honestly going to wait until he is done. I thought I learned my lesson after The Wheel of Time; but then I made the same mistake with Game of Thrones. Then I said I was done and started reading these because he was on a tear.....and now he is taking almost half a decade to get books out. So after this series I swore off starting new ones that aren't done.....but just now Dungeon Crawler Carl sucked me in and I am now on the last book of that one before being caught up. It fucking sucks how good these authors are but that they cannot just get the goddamn main story done and fill in the gaps with other standalone novels.

I think it’s kinda crazy that you’re comparing him to those two but he definitely can’t finish this. He needs to though, now that the content has started to dry up. Authors have a terrible time learning this.

Bro, look at the trend. It was one year between books. Then it was 2 and then 5 and now it might be 6. He still has his epic ending trilogy to get to which, at current pace, will take him 15 years to finish. So if he was on that trilogy right now he would not finish until 2040.

Yeah, not sure what is up with the dude. I know between Skin Game and Peace Talks he had a nasty divorce and moved across the country and shit. Plus he had that other series going on. Not sure what his excuse is this time. Especially since he was aiming at 23 books total, but that was before he split Peace Talks and Battle Ground. Then the book that was supposed to be coming next got changed into Twelve Months, so he added another book. It's gonna be 2050 before this series ends. I also know he has his other series going on, but is it actually popular? I tried reading it but it didn't hook me.

Thats 17 books in 20 years and he already pumped out a 6 book Codex Alera series and other books during that span. I get that you like his books but that’s a pretty unbelievable schedule over two decades. Eventually, he slows down and quality suffers which I think has happened. That still doesn’t put him at their levels. GRRM doesn’t even try anymore.

Really like how these are coming together. The slipcases are cool, the art is well done, everything feels nice. Still think Dresden looks a little too much like Sam Winchester from Supernatural in the Fool Moon and Grave Peril art. I think Summer Knight goes on pre-sale as soon as all the Grave Perils are done shipping, so it is proving to be a decent turn around for each book, especially seeing as how we have to get through 17+ of them.

he did a long interview* with nytimes, that is paywalled

Jon Del Arroz did a vid about it

Jon is (and will remind everyone constantly ;) ) that he was part of comicsgate, a christian and trump supporter. from around 8:00 to 10:00, he talks about when he got cancelled, out of blue, jim sent him a message of support .

*jon says, the article is more of story rather than in interview format

That's awesome! Man wish I could muster up a re-read before then but not sure it'll be possible with my current list of things to work through.

This is making me want to do a read through. That's a tough ask though in that time frame.

Most of the books are pretty short and you can sorta skim a bit more on a reread. Honestly 2026 is not soon enough to start, I’d finish and forget everything again by the time the release came around.

NGL, This is a series my wife got me into early on in our marriage. (We met around the time Death Masks came out). I read through Ghost Story, then just unexplicably stopped. I believe now I am on the "wait until he finishes and read it all" train now as well.

I used to think this way about this and other series. I have recently started rethinking that. Some of these motherfuckers aren't going to finish before I die. Butcher is definitely one possibility.

I thought Ghost Story was pretty bad aside from 1. the story he tells his fairy god mother at his grave and 2. the epilogue. The rest of it was meh at best and it doesn't seem to have all that much impact on the larger narrative or the characters themselves. Alright, you were a ghost and learned a lot about the nature of spirits. Will this inform your future use of soulfire maybe? Anything? No? Well alright then.

Cold Days, the book after and all the others are good though.

Ghost story feels bad because it is a major deviation from Dresdens power increase and character development. It is like he let us down and you feel as powerless as he is in ghost form. From a story point of view it is one giant cliffhanger and again just feels bad.

All the shit that goes down though is interesting from Nazi super Bob to all the compensation people need to do now that Harry isn’t there.
