Depends on the terms. The engine has more value than the IP. Selling the game and licensing the engine could be an option.

I'm pretty sure if they wanted to sell it off, they would want to get rid of the whole thing at once, and not make package deals out of it.

They want the "big" payday, not licensing agreements.

I have said before and I will say it again, I enjoyed the living fuck out of my time in New World. I got my money's worth out of the game. When I got to max level, I was done with the game, but I don't regret any second of the time I spent playing through the game.

I was actually looking at making another run through the game on my PS5 when I went and found out that they had literally announced the impending doom of the game like the same week I had decided to check to see if it was available for the PS5. I went to the website, seen it was on PS5, saw the recently released content, was super hyped to check it out, and then found an announcement on the web saying it was all coming to an end.

Would I play it again if another company picked it up? Yes. I definitely would. I don't see New World as a MMORPG that I play non-stop like I do other MMOs. I see it as a game you purchase, play through, and then put it on the shelf until the next expansion is put up you to purchase. I would continue playing New World for many years to come purchasing each expansions and playing through it for a month or two if it was available. And... I would prefer to do it on my PS5. It's just that kind of game.

You have to offer enough money .. they spent I think 200-500m on the IP..

ya 25mill doesn't cover shit.

covers more than the $0 they get from sitting on it as it devalues over time even more.

Either way, I hope someone buys it, seems like something NetEase would be all over.

If they are writing it off as a total loss, you need to pay more than they are going to get in tax breaks. There's also the not so minor black eye they would get by selling it to someone who would make it successful. Try again in a decade or two.

Tax write offs, they will get a lot more then 25m from sitting on the IP.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will happen. Or at least not until someone wins the AI race (or it completely collapses). Amazon and the rest of the tech lords are all in on AI. Everything else is just a distraction.

Goddamn never realized what a multi $ billion epic fail Amazon Game studios was until this video. They had multiple Concord / Highguard level failures before New World was even released.

Totally forgot about Breakaway, Crucible, and the John Smedley MMOG that got aborted before launch.

Don't blame Smedley (or anyone) for working there, but 100's pulled 6 figure salaries for years and never released a single game.

I didn't have much history of AGS so that was a pretty informative video. Sad, but informative nonetheless.

As for New World specifically, I didn't start playing it until a few years after it released, so I was fortunate to avoid its early launch mistakes and failures. When I did start playing in 2023/2024, I thought it was a very solid gaming experience with a pretty cool theme and alot of fun...until you reached the end-game.

I did as much as one could at max level but it just lacked staying power. The dungeons were fine enough but the overall itemization structure just seemed weak at best. IIRC, running those chest raids endlessly was the best method to obtaining loot but it got old very, very fast. Crafting was way-over-the-top grindy and the economy, or lack thereof, was one of the worst I've ever seen in a MMO.

If they had taken some different approaches to some of those design decisions, it might've had more success than it did. Not enough to save AGS based on the video above, but still unfortunate to see it go down in flames at the end the way it did.

The game had a lot of positives. The last expansion was the best expansion, and so it goes out on a strong note.

The graphics and especially the sound really drew you into the game. I spent a lot of time playing this game. It could have been better in a lot of ways but it was a good game overall.

Combat in the game was great, especially for PvP

Environmental Graphics and sound were great

I’ve said it before, but if the game launched in it’s current state or even +2year state, it would have held onto most of its audience. The end game did need work - there were raids, but they weren’t very accessible for good or for bad. One issue the raids had is they required gear and weapon talents that were different than regular pve or pvp

Game was good. But the tech corps want WoW or FFXIV numbers. And that probably isn't enough.
