I didn't have much history of AGS so that was a pretty informative video. Sad, but informative nonetheless.
As for New World specifically, I didn't start playing it until a few years after it released, so I was fortunate to avoid its early launch mistakes and failures. When I did start playing in 2023/2024, I thought it was a very solid gaming experience with a pretty cool theme and alot of fun...until you reached the end-game.
I did as much as one could at max level but it just lacked staying power. The dungeons were fine enough but the overall itemization structure just seemed weak at best. IIRC, running those chest raids endlessly was the best method to obtaining loot but it got old very, very fast. Crafting was way-over-the-top grindy and the economy, or lack thereof, was one of the worst I've ever seen in a MMO.
If they had taken some different approaches to some of those design decisions, it might've had more success than it did. Not enough to save AGS based on the video above, but still unfortunate to see it go down in flames at the end the way it did.
