I always looked at MMO’s like different style of casino games. The same mechanisms are in place for risk, reward, and addiction.

People who say this game has no chance are most of burnt out veterans who have tried every game in the casino, and figured this shit out long ago. There’s always a dumb fresh face coming over, willing to sit down and try something new and get hooked. Maybe they don’t like Poker and Roulette like everyone else. Sure, there are a lot of people over there because the free drinks come faster, the bets are bigger, and the waitresses are better looking - but there will always be a place for $1.00 minimum Blackjack and the slot machine players in the dark corners.

Pantheon and EQ’s style of gameplay are at least different, and in a sea of homogeny, there is opportunity. Hell, even old ass EQ still manages to pay its bills. Will Pantheon be as big as Texas Hold Em? Probably not. It might be the equivalent of a video spin machine in the corner – but hopefully it’ll cover its floor space and power bills because enough people like it.

Well if you guys all into Casino style bets. Then taking all bets on which comes out first Pantheon or EQ:Next. I'll give you 10 to 1 odds in either direction. Just PayPal me your cash and I'll pay out as soon as one of the above games reaches market.

Wrong thread Booze, if you're looking to fleece some suckers. This is the medieval fantasy game with what at least looks like real EQish gameplay. Besides, gambling is OOC for diehard EQ folks. The delusional financial speculation and gambling game is over at Space Roberts industries: Star Citizen Online - The search for more money

Hey I am not trying to fleece anyone. I am practically giving away free money with the odds above. You can't afford not to send me your cash.

Speaking of not fleecing anyone, THIS is how to kickstart a game:

Isn't it funny how eager people are to back kickstarters that have realistic goals and clearly display more planning than you can fit on the back of a napkin?

kickstarter said:

Nice!

That's also a project by the cartoonist behind The Oatmeal. He has a massive following on his website and they already have Exploding Kittens behind their back. Not excusing Brad's shit-show, but these guys are real talent and have had massive Kickstarter success already.

But Brad is the sole creative genius behind Everquest, the visionary game that single-handedly launched the MMORPG genre. I'm sure you've noticed how massive of a following the MMORPG community has, and Brad also has Vanguard behind his back. How much more talent could anyone possibly need before being showered with millions of kickstarter dollars?

Real talk though, if Pantheon doesn't go down like the Hindenburg before it even releases, I bet their subscription numbers are going to be comparable to current EQ subscriber numbers. Didn't someone say that Daybreak is currently owned by Russian hackers lately? I can't wait to see what kind of drama happens if Pantheon actually manages to pull subscribers away from EQ.

I Pantheon is anywhere close to half decent enough to steal away a significant portion of EQ additcs, EQ will finally be mothballed and put out of its misery. Started by BMQ and killed off by BMQ.

On that day I'm sure there can be a few 0-day special deliveries found to use when they are duking it out over scraps of the EQ descendant neckbeard market.

Quite true, but the EQEMU tides are doomed to ebb and flow to the tune of lulls in market when there is nothing decent available in the niche. For profit EQ has to be on its last legs by now.

Eqemu would do considerably better with "seasons" or leagues with ladders and a wipe upon completion. Kind of like poe does.

Actually doubt that, the EQ community has repeatedly shown that they are willing to continue to pay for less and less content on live and jumping all over new TLP servers.

Pantheon could kill EQ if they get it right. I love EQ but I've played it to death. I have played most classes to max with an epic, some of them multiple times on different servers, and on PVP servers. Anyone who has heard about EQ has already played it to death by now. It is a cool game but I've seen it all and some of the classes are boring to play (melees mostly). If Pantheon can play like EQ but with improved classes and in a new world, and with a bright future and a fresh start, it could take over from EQ. No idea if it is likely yet, but it could.

Even if they get it "right" by our standards here, it won't kill live EQ, it will hurt the TLP servers more than the live servers. The people who stubbornly continue to play current live EQ are used to playing a vastly different game (and clearly like it enough to keep playing it through shit expansion after shit expansion) than what Pantheon is aiming to be. They may try it and even like it, but the majority of live players will end up right back where there are now.

Thats like replacing one broken, old, ratty couch with another you got off craigslist for $25 though...

That's true, modern EQ is nothing like old EQ.
