Judging from various info snippets the big expense will be fitting the hull with top end gear. So even if you can bling-bliing out any of those wallet-killers to the point it turns into a huge "kill me for rage tears" sign (like you can in EVE), the ship itself will be fairly obtainable I think. No way in hell are they making the high dollar ships mid-tier. So much b utthurt if they do.
The Orion is a top tier mining ship. Not only that but a top tier mining ship from the second most expensive civilian ship manufacturer; RSI (Roberts Space Industries), the first being ORIGIN. The irony isn't lost on me.It depends on how much time it takes to get those ships. If that mining ship is BiS mining ship and it takes 10k hours of farming to get the funds for it, yes it's a p2w move to sell it for $$$. If that mining ship is an intermediate mining ship that you buy, then sell a couple weeks later to buy an even better mining ship, then it's not p2w and the people who paid $325 for it will probably feel dumb.
Oh interesting insights. Can you explain the REC thing a little? Is it only for the Arena Commander, or will it somehow transition into the final SC persistent universe game? When you mention tiering - again do you mean in relation to Arena Commander or for the final game? I've only played a little bit in my Mustang Alpha, but I can see how skill could be a big deal. It would suck to have Tommy and his gang of middle schoolers rape my cargo ship on a regular basis, but that's what insurance is for, right? The Orion is a top tier mining ship. So to answer your question the concept right now before REC is p2w. After REC it gets more interesting because you will be able to unlock ships and weapons to use for a week at a time (chopped down to any 24 hour block when you log in as it stands right now). They do need to make acquiring that shit relatively painless so it can get proper testing but it should help people with lesser ships in the long run. Besides it's mostly about the weapons and your piloting skills. I have watched plenty of videos with Aurora pilots ripping to shreds Hornets and everything else coming at them non-stop.
The other issue is a lack of tiering. Chris brought up both of these points in his latest forum post. He knows it's fucking up people's experience and it's one of the reasons they pushed the REC system into the development pipeline earlier which has fucked up the rest of development but IMO that's their own fault along with launching in Germany. The reason why there is a huge delay in the tiering is because of the Germany studio. They wanted the development team that got let go from CryTek but had to also do VAT. That ate up something like two months of development from the team responsible for tying together tiering. So that still leaves tiering and we won't see that until probably mid year to year end sadly. Those guys are working their asses off. They need to hire more people IMO or give the game another 6-12 months in dev. I can see already that this game is not launching properly in early 2017 let alone late 2016. I said so before but as they keep juggling it becomes more evident. There is nothing wrong with that. The latest Witcher just went back into dev for something like 8 months and that's from consistently the best game developer in the entire industry.
So your point has a cascading effect when you look at it from a development standpoint. I knew that coming into this. The question is. Do the fanatics know?
If people make AAA games that fill a market neglected for over a decade that's fine by me. It's not like the next CoD or even loved games like the next GTA or elder scrolls game would be able to do what SC did. The people buying $1000 ships want a massive flight sim game and there's nothing for them.More worried the game is a big hit and the pay up front before the game even goes live becomes more common. If it works out that way you know a lot will try to cash in on it.
Don't see the problem here. Just don't pay up front or pre-order. It isn't like they are going to stop selling the game after it releases. Honestly it is already here with all this crowd funding, early access, pay to alpha/beta stuff.More worried the game is a big hit and the pay up front before the game even goes live becomes more common. If it works out that way you know a lot will try to cash in on it.
REC is for Arena Commander that will include the FPS module along with every other type of simulation inside the Persistent Universe game. Any ship you own will of course be unlocked in it. Same for any weapons etc. Anything you don't own you can play and earn REC to unlock for a time and try it out. As Chris mentioned it will be a great way for people to get a new weapon and see if it's worth spending in game money on. Missiles, ships, rifles, personal or ship armor etc it's all the same. The system will continue in the Persistent Universe. It's why they are trying to lock it down now. I don't necessarily agree with it but I can understand the logic behind it. To be honest nobody has seen it and so nobody can truly complain about it. If shit is fucked up they will fix it.Oh interesting insights. Can you explain the REC thing a little? I'm afraid that the lack of competition is going to have an impact on this games quality in my opinion. Corners are going to get cut and so will their consumer base.If people make AAA games that fill a market neglected for over a decade that's fine by me. The reason behind keeping Arena Commander instead of not having it? Lots of reasons. You can use it for testing weapons and various builds of equipment and ships. Same for FPS once there is enough equipment there to mix and match things. You can do all that without ever risking your life or your equipment/ships to real damage and loss. PvP looting is very much a thing. People who play pirates and don't give two shits about the UEE rep hit will steal everything that isn't nailed down on your corpse and steal what's left of your ship if you eject. If you keep everything, is there even a point to this convoluted system? I guess it plays into their goal of making this game an immersive simulation and less gamey. But that's a reason most dont care for.
I'm not seeing that. If that was the case why are they re-doing the early ships like the Avenger, Cutlass and Constellation? They are going through the 3rd major revision now just like the Hornet did. If they care so little why would they spend an ungodly amount of time and effort to re-tool all those ships? Chris was asked for 2 years to implement a modular ship system to let players adjust the inside of ships. He is laying the groundwork for that now but that means re-doing many early ships and those are some of the cheapest ones you can own.I'm afriad that the lack of competition is going to have an impact on this games quality in my opinion. Corners are going to get cut and so will their consumer base.
They're already showing it with the monetization of power in these top tier ships.
I think the answer would be immersion. It's pretty important to Roberts.I meant, if you keep your stuff (via inheritance to your new character), why spend the money and time on that creating that death system. Keeping a quick-match arcade shooter simulation is fine with me, people love their arena/BG content.
