I only played the game for the 4-6 weeks after release, getting two classes to max... And in those early times the economy was pretty rough, but that's to be expected. Is that what he means maybe?
Same here, only played one class to max and quit when my one gameplay style (WvWvWvW) was nothing but 20 dudes on screen with 200 invisible thanks to culling.

But during that time, I'd get a good drop, or so I thought, and it would always sell on the AH for "vendor sell price+1". Did that change later on? :p Also wasn't the auction house broke for the first few weeks?

gw2 econ was a flop , at the launch and for a long time after there was no auction house and you COULDN'T hand your friends some items , there is literally no way to just hand someone a potion ETC. , its mind boggleing.

one of the worst design decisions i have ever seen in a mmo

Hmmm I seem to remember there being an AH, it was just super broken for a little over a week after launch.

More like 2 weeks iirc? Launch outside of the AH was pretty decent but that feature was flat-out disabled at first because it couldnt handle the traffic. No player-to-player trading in an MMO is retarded at any rate, but since their replacement feature for that is working peer-to-peer mail without needing to pick it up somewhere) I dont fuss about it. The ony people getting screwed without direct trading is those trying to sell something without using the AH, which still sucks but isnt a widespread issue.

And Rob, whatever you considered a good drop was crap if it sold for vendor price. That's more of an issue with GW2 not having much interesting loot in general and nearly everything being worldwide random drops instead of specific loot tables. Still, there's loot going through all price ranges up to several hundreds on the TP so imo the economy works about as good or bad as any other MMO (without going into legendaries and the retarded idea to make them sellable).

The problem with the AH in GW2 is the same problem with so much of Rift. It took the personal touch out of the game, and made it huge and generic.

There's nothing wrong with the GW2 economy, but essentially the lack of being able to make a lot of profit early on really took the trader fun out of the game for me. I think it was like the Internet and Car Sales.

It was a global economy which I made a shit ton of rl money off of. Bayr is an idiot if he thinks it was horrible. Global means you aren't fucked on a dead server. Bayr is the type of person that works check to check cause he's the lowest common denominator.

In my opinion GW2's Trading post wasn't retarded, though it didn't function as intended during the first ten days. It's a global auction house, where you can powerspeculate like a mad yuppie while keeping casual players at bay with the current gear flow. You'll get there to sell your junk without worrying about your server or anything. I didn't like GW2 because there were no gear treadmill (yeah...), but I think its economy is good and the Trading Post, convenient.

A universal AH instead of a server specific one is already broken no matter how well implemented. It contradicts what an MMO is supposed to be. How can you have an AH that is effected by another server that has nothing to do with your own server. Sure I get the reason why devs may want to do it but an AH should be server wide only so that it is only effected by events in that particular server. I'd go on but we've all heard it before MMO's have become glorified lobbies. Somewhere a long the line WoW decided convenience was more important then being apart of a community. There has to be some kind of compromise soon or we all will be playing COD like 'MMOs".

( and no I don't mean let's go back to the old days of waiting 2 hours for a dungeon/whatever)

Ugh I'm agreeing with DMK, will need to show now. I agree, AH should be server specific. I want to know who the ones are the sell certain things, who are the buyers and sellers etc. I want only my server to effect our server's economy, not what some other server does or will do. Yes I can see it being used for low pop servers, but imo there shouldn't be any low pop servers. If companies were not so afraid to merge servers when its needed there would be no low pop servers and thus no reason to change mechanics/features because of them.

Gotta agree with DMK as well, server wise. In my opinion it's always quite cool randomy looting THAT awesomely rare leveling-break weapon / armor when you can sell / exchange it for better tomorrow (money or else). There is no point checking it into some global servers auction house when anyone and their cat is already selling that thing ten times, it removes the "special server's feel" loot wise.

I do understand it would land questions regarding balance or gameplay, and while I'm aware of people raising concerns gameplay wise (like powerplayers buying all the good shit in some server) but since I'm a gear treadmill strong advocate, I honestly don't give a damn about casual players, I do think there are some things you can't, could and won't never afford to buy because there are people out there spending more time than you in the game.

It's unfair ? Nowadays, most games offer, legally or not, ways to upgrade your online character. It's just a matter of choice.

Agreed. Yet another mechanic that encourages anti-social behavior.

A global AH would make more sense in a single-player game that has an online feature...

Hey I'm not afraid to admit I've been agreeing with quiet a few things you've posted over the last few months.
