Reminds me of when I went to my buddy's house and he had a mid 20s hunter in vanilla wow that he had only ever meleed on. As for ilvl, is there really any reason to be pushing ilvl prior to EW release? Once you have enough ilvl to unlock all the raids / MSQ through to the end that is. I made...

There have been studies done that show how friendships develop. One of the features was 'repeatedly bumping into one another doing something where the goal wasn't to meet up'. ie. at your kid's soccer practice or ballet class, etc. You can't force people to meet up with the express purpose of...

LFD was added during WotLK. Forced 'group required' content is still present in every single MMO as the top end content available, and it's all popular. The problem is the same problem every MMO has. They are one game for 1-59 and a completely different game at 60.

Seeing other people in the world doesn't change the fact that you're on a dead server if you're forced to guild only with server people and the auction house is server specific. How is there going to be a 'server specific community' if there isn't anyone on the server in the first place? In the...

Maybe that is what people want. A platform to facilitate social interaction in a world with persistent RPG characters. All MMOs would make shitty single player games, and then they all provide wide avenues for people to play solo ie. the shittiest way. Who would play offline single player WoW...

My brain is ravaged by ADHD, so a single combo button would be a big improvement since if I get distracted by anything I end up just starting my combo over again. I also usually start my combo over from scratch when I switch targets on mobs.

Some of the mods are pretty tame (ERP, hiding people, damage meters). Some of the combo / queuing / mouseover plugins work by basically 'cheating', just within parameters that don't exceed what you could already do as a player. That being said, it's not hard to start modifying those values to...

I would imagine 'EQ with better graphics' would be closer to the TLP experience than P99. You'd expect some development of the original ideas. I'd guess most mean a slower, more deliberate game with an emphasis on social interactions rather than just 'all the cruft of a 20 year old game'. TLP EQ...

Yeah, pull well and you'll get commendations as the tank. Also, people will just click the blue or green if they're going to bother doing commendation. Problem with low level is that a tank has like 10% of their kit. Most of the time in leveling queues as DRK you're running through without TBN...

Did Diadem gathering to grab mats for for 20-70 for all crafting professions. The amount after that goes up to 10 per combine, so I switched over to doing facet/HQ leves using a spreadsheet from the balance discord and it went pretty quickly. All said and done I ended up gil positive.

Leveling via direct queuing highest dungeon available is pretty viable even as dps. I'm on Exodus and usually had 5-10 min queues while leveling. It's faster than potd but doing potd is necessary for aetherarms and unlocking HoH. Speaking of which, I haven't gone back after getting to 40-50...

At least in Shadowbringers, the quest design doesn't really progress beyond 'run here to see the next part of the story' x 10 and then a dungeon/trial. It's not bad because the story is good, but most everything plays out in the cutscenes. You do very little combat outside dungeons / single...

Endwalker is right around the corner, regardless of WoW being shit. They are offering a service for money and it's their job to provide that service, not mine. I don't care how they do it, but if they don't do it or do it poorly, I'm going to judge them for it. It's the same as WoW devs...

I know, I work on cloud infrastructure all day. The fact remains that it's a good fit since with an MMO you will always be sitting on too much or too little hardware. You can either plan for xpac launch and then sit on a bunch of idle iron the rest of the time, or have big queues and 'congested'...

BFA and Shadowlands both released without any server downtime, the quest just popped. It went largely without a hitch. I believe the 9.1 release was a bit more rocky but that was more due to bad programming/bugs than infrastructure issues.

I remember something I heard on one of alovingrobot's interviews that gave me a perspective I hadn't considered. I think it was with Kevin McPherson talking about Kunark, and he mentioned that to them, they thought Kunark was going to be the only expansion. They were just making an RPG that...

Love it or hate it, the elasticity of cloud platforms are a perfect fit for the constantly changing demand curve that plague MMOs. It's funny to see how different the approaches Max and Asmongold took to the game worked out. Both were seen as harbingers of doom and were being shit on when they first started. Asmongold embraced the story, reading all the dialogue out loud and spending a week clearing the ARR raids before...

To be fair to WoW, raiding with 20+ people is more difficult than raiding with 8. Group retardation grows exponentially with...

The only thing I didn't like about the skill tree was that the points weren't earned by using the actual weapon. This meant you could farm out points in one build then just buy all the skills out of another weapon tree without ever having played it. I feel like it would have smoothed the...

The feeling going around at the time was that in order to make loot valuable, it had to be extremely rare. GINA/GamParse are pretty unoffensive since they just do audio alerts/overlay based on combat log entries that are being written out to disk through normal client behavior. Sniffing network / reading memory starts to cross the line into 'third party' grey area.

A lot of the 'carebear' argument came from the legacy of EQ more than the reality of it at the time WoW launched. People remembered corpse runs, xp loss, hell levels, forced grouping, etc and saw WoW as ez mode. I remember there were actual discussions about how it would end up 'top heavy'...
