They're emulating the server's response. Chunking is all client side. They'd have to find a way to decompile the engine code and rewrite it to even try.

The way to get exp on this server that doesn't make you want to stab your face off is to kill a lot of yellows/reds at a fast pace in a full group. This usually involves an enchanter to charm a mob too, and staying in the old world as long as possible because the mobs have a lot less HP.

I think the "feels like EQ" depends a lot on what EQ was to you. As said, there's very little feature-wise they share, aside from leaving you feeling lost and no quest hub to quest hub systems, apparently. For me, EQ was always about danger and exploration, and how those two tied together...

I always wonder what VG would've been like without the technical issues. It's very difficult to ever do apples-to-apples with anything, because there's always lots of nuance that will sway any results.
