    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Sure, especially when it comes to non-instanced, limited resources, eg: people using bots to purchase plots of land in Archeage. I haven't been following Pantheon too closely, but if there are mobs out in the open world that drop awesome loot, you can bet there will probably be tools written to...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Aside from the dungeons interspersed throughout the leveling process, there isn't anything you'd get out of playing with another person that you couldn't just get fucking around with them on voice chat while you run around doing your thing. In fact, sometimes the quests will have you break party...

Return of Reckoning - Warhammer Online Private Server

Think they've been getting DDOS'd the past couple of days (when I Googled the site to make sure I had the most recent URL, the Google cache news update talked about a DDOS). Seems to be up now.

Domino's been brought on to help with the expansion (campansion now, I guess) the past few years, so this isn't unusual.

    TERA

FWIW, they've definitely improved the leveling grind -- I can't speak to all of the changes they've made since I only just started playing again recently (I'm one of those people who played at launch and quit after), but I know they streamlined the questing experience, I believe they've also...

    TERA

This weekend and next TERA is having a double EXP event, so it's a good time to check it out. I'm in the camp that dislikes the character models, but the gameplay is good enough that I'm willing to put my distaste for them aside. I think TERA is kind of like SWTOR in that it's become quietly...

Lack of a cohesive vision was a pain, but it's hard to pull off when you've had so many developers over the years, unfortunately. I legitimately think given time (a lot of time sadly, way too much), the team we had prior to layoffs could have made things more sensible, but you're pulling the rug...

The 1-50 story isn't really good enough to reroll for, in my opinion. There's definitely some cool segments in there, but considering all of the inane stuff you'd have to repeat, you might as well just YouTube it if you're that interested. Even the post-50 story doesn't really pick up till near...

Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

I think the thing with the games you mentioned is that they probably do decently given revised expectations, but the majority of the people who play them don't post on forums.

You do, that's me (Endymion), and I appreciate that comment and this one as well. I kind of hate this stuff in MMOs. Whenever a new ability/item is added in any game that's just going to be a part of "the" burst window, I cringe.

I agree with you, this is also why I enjoyed playing Channeler (the newest class), since it was designed with this playstyle in mind.

    Everquest II

The problem with this is the people producing content (as in the actual zones, enemy scripting, etc.) are not the people who would be involved with the kind of rebalance you're talking about, nor are they necessarily capable of assisting in order to reduce the workload.

You'd need to register the console version of the base game as well as the expansion. Licenses do not transfer between console and PC, which is a shame because they did with FFXI.
  16. I

    Everquest II

Yeah, I'm friends with the person who said that but I'm not a fan of the argument (particularly because of the hyperbolic pendulum swing to 5 abilities). That said, even if they had the inclination to, the amount of time it'd take to comb through abilities on 26 classes to prune abilities is too...

EoF was good times; that's when I started playing myself (still have the box!), though my roommate at the time had been playing since launch so I'd watch him raid and stuff. Looking at the game then and now, it pains me to see how many aspects of it feel like they were implemented without any...

    Everquest II

FWIW, the dungeon finder did get some backend improvements and sees some use these days thanks to the level agnostic dungeons that are available from 20 to 95. Cross-server dungeons are planned, but they have to work through DB issues first in order to allow for that to happen.

    Everquest II

One of the problems with EQ2, though, is it has a ridiculous amount of button bloat before you even get to the period where they added more. Worse, a lot of the abilities are boring to look at, lack any interesting interactions with other abilities, etc.

They were actually going to do that at some point (I think during the Sentinel's Fate beta, so way before my time as a dev), it was not received well, but from what I heard the execution was lacking.

    Everquest II

Well, you have to remember that most stats are based on flat percentages rather than WoW-style ratings. There are some stats with curves like what you're talking about (like multi-attack), but it still has the net effect of impacting buff desirability and in general making those stats less...
  23. I

    Everquest II

Some of the EQ2 stats are sort of hard-capped now. There is an overcap conversion system for some of the stats (eg: excess haste converting to flurry), but eventually those stats will be capped as well and it greatly diminishes the desirability of certain buffs, as well.
  24. I

    Everquest II

Yeah. Personally I really wanted to do another stat overhaul, but it's incredibly time-consuming, resource-intensive, and a difficult sell for both players and higher-ups, particularly since it's been done before with... questionable results.

    Everquest II

Aw man, so mean. :P I can't possibly begrudge anyone for disliking EQ2; if you point out a flaw with the game I'm likely to agree with you about it. I still had some fondness for it in spite of that, though, and it was fun to work on for the time I was there. As for me, I'm not working on...

A lot of the good post-50 main story quest bits are also hampered by the shitty questing, too. Also, I strongly dislike people who can't follow directions and won't speak up when given directions. Wanted to knock out Steps of Faith before my vacation but people are giving me a headache.

Going to be lazy and quote myself from a previous page in response to you: Even with that in mind, most of the leveling dungeons aren't super difficult, particularly if you're with people who know what they're doing. Naturally, end-game content is more difficult, at least the 8-man stuff (Coil...

I don't think anyone will know what will happen with relic weapons until the expansion hits; SE has backtracked on occasion when it comes to other matters so whatever they say should be taken with a grain of salt. Paladin is fairly boring to level; Warrior's fun to play but given the way they...

I'd also recommend going through guildhests once you gain access to them. They are a nice bit of EXP and you will be required to do some of them later on for the post-50 story content, so might as well get them unlocked as soon as you can. Edit: Also Pyros, I just realized you post on GAF too...

Our World - Built by the Rerolled community

This is why I'm going to be interested in seeing how Pantheon will fare once they scale up their testing. I do know that Epic has been trying to hire senior engineers with MMO experience; I'd assume it's to help address some of their networking issues when it comes to larger player counts.

Dungeons don't really pick up until Brayflox's Longstop (level 32). There's some interesting mechanics here and there before then, but again they tend to be baby's first MMO until then. As for the mount, after you join a Grand Company, you start earning company seals via some content (FATEs...

As much as I hate the idea of having to play a game for x amount of hours to truly get a feel for it, if you're at all experienced with MMOs I do think FFXIV can feel overbearing with its training wheels until you get to the content in the mid-30s (Sunken Temple of Qarn, Titan story mode, etc.)...

SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

My biggest problem with doing a progression server was just the amount of time it would take to get it actually feeling like one. That's time taken away from working on live servers, to create something that would also take away from the population of live servers (I doubt many people would...
